Pure white background

    Hi there,

I am using a white paper roll and lighting it with a big reflector dish. It comes out white but has a blue cast in the corner. Whats causing this? and what is the best way to capture a pure white background in camera?

    Thanks

Calibrate your white balance in camera or shoot in RAW.
If it's only in the corner and white everywhere else check that your reflector isn't refracting light somehow.

Are you shooting in Auto White Balance Mode? You are probably balanced for tungsten, and the camera is compensating with blue. Change the white balance to flash or to a custom temperature of your flash if you know it. Probably somewhere around 5500.

It sounds to me more like you've got a VERY VERY VERY light shadow being cast onto the part of the roll you say looks blue. You could point a flash of some sort directly at that part & wash it out.. or rearrange your reflectors to make sure that spot is getting as much light as the rest of the backdrop. Or.. crop that bit out of the photo if you have the room to move everything a bit to one side or the other.

It could be also light from light tubes and also reflection from any colour material next to the background, like a wall painted blue.

if it's only int he corners, I would think that it's just natural light fall-off.

You need to Nuke the backround with a flash unit to make it pure white, A reflector indoors on a white backround really isn't going to do much.

    I think the same.

There's no harm in giving a tip but the original poster has probably moved on since. Their lack of further input into the thread is a sign of that.
You'll get a lot more out of boards by engaging in new threads.

Bumping old threads is generally considered poor internet etiquette.
Tho the worst is people who drag up threads that are several years old! :)
