Best soundtrack ever?

Can be anything: movie, tv show or even a musical!

For me, I love the Grand Theft Auto Vice City soundtrack, really took me to the 80's when I played it and I've since aquired it on cd for the iPOD.

I also think that Reeling in the Years has a great selection of music on it, always seems appropriate to whatever images it's shown with.

Ennio Morriconie's sound tracks to the spaghetti westerns, has to be up there with the best... e.g. "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly".

For me it's a toss up between Pulp Fiction and Trainspotting. Honourable mention goes to Kingpin, surprisingly good soundtrack.

Score or soundtrack???? Big debate for me, as some films have incredible scores, using little existing music.

But for soundtracks, these films standout for me:

    -Pulp Fiction
    -Goodfellas
    -School Of Rock
    -American Psycho:o
    -Reservoir Dogs
    -Casino

As for an original score, I love the following:

    -Pirates Of The Caribbean
    -The Dark Knight
    -Bad Boys
    -Gladiator
    -Jaws
    -Star Wars Saga
    -Jurassic Park
    -The Rock

The Thin Red Line has a lovely sound track to it,
and Natural Born Killers is one that still sounds good to listen to.

Wouldn't call it the best soundtrack ever, but Out of Sight has a fantastic soundtrack.
Really nice original music by David Holmes (dunno how to categorise it exactly, but sort of ambient jazzy stuff, but that's not really on the money) interspersed with The Isley Brothers, Dean Martin and others...
David Holmes was apparently only supposed to write music for a few scenes, but Soderbergh was so impressed he asked for more (Thank you Wikipedia), and then got Holmes to do the music for Ocean's 11 etc.

I really love the movie too, and Jennifer Lopez is actually quite good in it (I think it's from before she became an annoying singer)

Only downside to the soundtrack is the movie dialogue included in several tracks, but meh, not a huge deal.

Also, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Baz Lurhmann's Romeo & Juliet and some more that I can't think of at the moment...

    EDIT: Forgot about games!
    Final Fantasy
    Grim Fandango

For movie soundtracks, i think the Forrest Gump one is hard to beat. For movie scores, the tunes to Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is absolutely stunning. The late Michael Kamen did a superb job on this, the film's intro theme has to be the best ever.

For tv series, the BBC's Ashes to Ashes is quality. All early 80s stuff like The Jam and Roxy Music. Different class.

Velvet Goldmine had a pretty good soundtrack what with Roxy Music, T. Rex, Lou Reed and though no songs it had a Bowie vibe.

I've been listening to score soundtracks alot lately and Hanz Zimmer is simply fantastic - he consistently presents brilliant, uplifting music!

    Best scores imo:

    Transformers
    The Dark Knight
    The Pacific
    Band of Brothers

If you're into 80's music you can't beat the Donnie Darko soundtrack:

    1. "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS – 3:04
    2. "Head Over Heels" by Tears for Fears – 4:16
    3. "Under the Milky Way" by The Church – 4:58
    4. "Lucid Memory" by Sam Bauer and Gerard Bauer – 0:46
    5. "Lucid Assembly" by Gerard Bauer and Mike Bauer – 0:52
    6. "Ave Maria" by Vladimir Vavilov and Paul Pritchard – 2:57
    7. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Steve Baker and Carmen Daye – 3:12
    8. "Show Me (Part 1)" by Quito Colayco and Tony Hertz – 2:05
    9. "Notorious" by Duran Duran – 4:00
    10. "Stay" by Oingo Boingo – 3:38
    11. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division – 3:23
    12. "The Killing Moon" by Echo & the Bunnymen – 5:55

And then there's the theme song as well which is amazing.
