It's a flat, dull course and you'll need a hard hat because it can be lethal if the place is busy.

Dear god, if someone said that they were giving me thirty quid to play a round there, i still wouldnt go. Horrible horrible golf course. One remotely interesting hole is the 3rd maybe which plays over a quarry, other than that its flat boring and positively dangerous in places.

Boring golf course, all holes are the same except for distance, only worth E15 for weekdays.

Played there myself last weekend, greens were spiked and sanded.
    Didn't like it either tbh.

I think you can probably play Cobh for 30 euro at the weekends too. Not next weekend though. It's the Captains prize.

It's an absolute joke of a course! You should have a good life assurance policy if you're going to play there!

Guys I'm not saying that is a good course by a long shot, but its a great for beginners and learning the game, I have never seen it busy I have never had to book a tee time there I just turn up. What I also like is you can turn up in your jeans or anything you want and nobody says a word to you. Its only €18 midweek as well.

You have a point there Eco for sure. When I first started I didn't have the confidence to go near a golf course that would be considered good as I didn't want to hold people up being crap.
I also felt a little bit intimidated as golf has a reputation as being a bit snooty, for want of a better word. (That may be true in some cases but I find is not in the majority)

And you need to play a course as the range will only get you so far.
    So more power to you.
It is very tight though so watch your head :D

I think this course , while never going to rate in the top 100 200 in the country , has its place .
Was staying with friends in Carrigaline a couple of weeks back and at 10am on Sat morning he says "do you fancy a quick round ?" .
So over the road to Fernhill which was 2 mins away , played 18 holes of golf in 3 hrs (2 Ball) and in for a quick pint afterwards and home by 2 . I cant think of anywhere in Dublin you could do that.
Course is comparable to Old Bray (Dargle View) or maybe ladyhill.

Exactly! every course has its place and a beginneer like me with two kids with not that much time or money Fernhill has its place. What I do when ever I get a bit of time free I jump into the car and I know when I arrive at Fernhill no one is going to tell me, but you didn't book a tee time? you have to wear golf trousers? etc etc. I just puck out and I can play two balls as well because no one is going to say anything to you

I played Killeens yesterday in Killarney where the Irish open is going to be played this year, and do know what? I didn't enjoy it I hated it. I got only 18 points(yeah I know I'm Sh1t) But that course has its place as well. You have to turn up a your tee time to the minute, keep up the pace so you are not holding up play, have the proper clothes, loose a couple of balls etc etc, and pay your 60 or 70 euros for the pleasure.

So every course has its place so when commenting on a course don't say its sh1t why not say "yeah its no Ballybunion far from it but its OK for someone starting out or just wants to practice and blast a few balls because its easy not busy and you can play a few balls if you want"

    keep it real
