Friendship ended by email....is it acceptable?

A guy I had become friends with and close to said he no longer saw the point in meeting me. I couldn't understand that as we were friends and not an item.
    That's one issue.
But the manner in which he told me was via email.
I was so hurt and distressed 'cos I expected more from him in terms of respect for me.
Is it socially acceptable to use an email in this way?
Any suggestions why he did it this way and not face to face or by telephone.
I haven't contacted him since. Although I would like to know why?

It's wrong how he ended the friendship.

Did he meet a girl recently? Was he interested in you more than as friends but couldn't take it anymore and cut off contact? Does he have issues in his life at present? It could be many reasons why he decided to cut the friendship.

Not only that, but there was a previously locked thread where she/he(??) posted both as katie99 and wellies. Either a troll or someone with serious gender-identity issues.

Guys, if you have an issue with a post, use the report post function.

Calling people trolls is against the charter, there are enough warnings about the place, and it will result in a ban.

Besides that, OP, you were asked to pm to explain the dual accounts in the thread linked above.
Until you can clarify, I'm locking this thread
