For Mullingar you're choice is limited to Danny Byrne's and The Stables.

Danny's has live music 6 nights a week and quiz night is Tuesday.

The Stables gig listings are on their website http://www.stableslive.com/

Danny's is a pretty decent pub, music-wise a lot of cover bands play there at the weekend. Occasionally some up and coming bands play too. Rob Strong and Buck Taylor play there every so often and are both well worth a look imo. Monday has a nice little acoustic session with some local musicians.

As for the stables you get a wide variety of music played here. A lot of original artists and some pretty well known Irish artists like The Coronas, Redneck Manifesto and Cathy Davey. The stables itself is a nice little venue imo but the Yukon Bar of which is the front of it.... well it's a kip ime.

Danny Byrnes is great always a good atmosphere and can still have a decent conversation if you want! Can be packed at weekends but good crowd. Not limited to dannys and stables for live music though just keep an eye out. Crossbar and Cafferys have live music sometimes. highly recommend dannys though.

Athlone tends to be a bit drier when it comes to the live music scene unfortunately. However the best place to see a live band in Athlone is Scribes, the AIT student union bar. It has an actual stage and large variety bands play there from the likes of The Coronas and The Blizzards to up-and-coming local bands. Unfortunately only open during the student year. Elsewhere in town other places to hear live music are The Local, The Palace occasionally and Sean's Bar sometimes.

The Local usually have a music listing on their facebook page

The egg and spoon (or is it eggs and spoons ) are a good local Mullingar covers band with a bit of a following. Look out for them as they get a good atmosphere going. Came across them first in Macs bar then at the Hill of Uisneach festival. Is Macs still closed? What happened there then?

    They couldn't afford it anymore.

Seans Bar, in Athlone, has traditional live music session on Monday to Thursday nights and on Sunday night as well. From local people really, its a proper old skool irish bar.. http://www.seansbar.ie/
