Thought its pretty relevant as a thread considering the volume of them sold in this country

    http://www.netcarshow.com/toyota/2010-corolla/

Main point is really that the 1.33vvti takes over from the 1.4, so road tax drops from 447€ to 156€, 1.4 diesel appears unchanged, with co2 still at 125g so still €156 road tax in that too

Hardly much of a change on the exterior, looks a bit better i suppose, interior seems pretty indistinguishable as far as i can see, flat bottomed steering wheel though()

Unknown when this will make it here but i imagine toyota ireland would prefer you not know about this facelift, they probably still have to shift those 1.4s with the prizebonds:rolleyes:

I'd imagine they'll be putting the 6 speed box on the diesel like they did on the Auris.

Didn't read the article but the 1.33 probably has stop-start and 6 speed box as on the Auris.

nice detail on the rear lights. boot door seems to be the same as the 07, but the bumper comes up higher at the bottom and makes the outer light smaller.

No sheet metal changes I can spot apart from the front wings not having the indicator on them now. as done on the Avensis 06 facelift, and the Auris 09 facelift. daring stuff indeed :)

That Corolla is one boring looking car! Ok, it's only a facelift, but compare this to say the styling of the Honda Civic.

    Here's the proposed 2010 Gen8 Honda Civic:

No longer the best built cars in the world, there's little left then. How do they even sell?

compare that to the Civic saloon and you're back in dull territory.
Toyota know their market for the Corolla to be fair.

They certainly do and in that netcarshow piece, they claim its for Eastern European markets? Are we the only western european country who get it? I dont think joe soap who buys corolla's will even notice this facelift one iota but i do feel sorry for all the people who have bought the 1.4 petrol models this year when we all knew for the last year and a half that the 1.33 was coming..

we're the only European country to get it in RHD (*)

nah, there are loads of saloons sold in Eastern Europe, saw quite a few Corollas in Estonia, in the poorer countries they have the likes of the Dacia Logan and Renault Phalia, saloon versions of the Pug 206 and Opel Corsa. probably because the communist cars they had for the last few decades were saloons and that's what they're used to now.
We're not like Western European countries who like big saloons and small hatchbacks.

1.4 petrol customers got great deals and already had the option of the 1.4 D-4D anyway.

*as in they don't sell them in the UK

They got decent deals but i still think the resale value of those cars will be shocking. That said, i imagine many of those people will keep them for donkeys years so they'll be alright, and the way some of them are driven the older more predictable 1.4 may suit them better than the newer higher tech 1.33

I think the same is true of that new Renault Fluence, afaik, we're the only country in Western Europe to get it

Fair enough. Is there a 3 door corolla anymore? I think it's the Auris now? I could be wrong, but it's not stacking up either. I picked the "Sporty" model, but I can't find a 3 door. Remember these'll compete in the same market space as the Civic. Take your pick

Toyota drivers generally don't give a damn what they're driving though - when the last model Avensis was running out and new one was already launched, people were coming to see the all new Avensis and wanted it. The sales guy would show them the old model, tell them they could save 500-1000 euro, and they'd all go for the old model with a new numberplate.

that would explain the massive number of Civics they're selling.

Given the choice most went for a car now in their choice of colour for 4000 less (before you factor in the depreciation on their trade in after the 4 month wait for a new model) rather than a new model.
They were doing unbelievable deals on Avensis D-4D models at the start of 09.
I don't think an old model bought in 09 is worth more than 4000 less than a new model 09, so who loses out really?

The driver, on 10 bhp and the greater driving pleasure of the new model:pac:

    Fair point alright, though

My sarcasm meter is broke and I have no idea on sales in the industry (other than they are generally fecked). Are Civic's not selling?

    Fair point alright, though

Old Avensis D-4D got the 127bhp engine in 2006 and is roughly 20kg lighter than the new model so no real performance gain.
New one is nicer to drive, better on fuel and lower on tax though.
