Upgrading from EVA 8000

    Hi,

I've been using the EVA 8000 for a few years and it has been acting up recently (constantly having to reset, can't find shares, etc.) and I've been thinking of upgrading.

I've gone through a number of threads and the Popcorn Hour line looks good - I like the idea of being able to download directly through the device to a hard-drive and/or being able to add a blu-ray player but I've been burned with gadgets before!

With the EVA 8000 I was happy until my mate showed me his set-up with a modded X-Box.

Ideally the XBMC interface would be ideal (like getting the IMDB stuff automatically).

    Any suggestions?

    Many thanks all.

    depends on your content really.

xbmc on xbox1 is excellent, but wont do much (if any) HD content.

your eva8000 will do full 1080p, I have 3 of them at home and a eva9150.

if your eva cant find the shares, if probably the way the shares are presented that are the problem, I've never had any issues loosing shares, mine are running for over 2 years now, and I use a dedicated NAS for streaming.

replacing the eva wont sort that out....

i have all my movies fully tagged with IMDB stuff as well that can be seen on eva, free app:

    and a walkthru for eva8000

Thanks meob, I simply have a shared folder on my laptop that has my content in it and this streams over the wireless network.

I've never been able to get HD content to stream, so I normally just put it on a USB thumb drive and plug that into the EVA8000.

Maybe I just haven't set the network up properly.

I've just got a MacBook as well and the EVA8000 can't seem to find the shared folder on this - but I think that needs some work-around...

I'll try the mymoves app as well.

Thanks again - appreciate the response.
