    Hi,
I have an image I like expect for the fence in the way. Is there any way to airbrush this out nicely?
I have photoshop Elements (haven't used it yet though)

To be honest in photo shop elements it's not going to be easy! I'd recommend you download a photoshop CS4 trial(if still available) or wait till the CS5 trial is released and try using some of the tools in that!

I'd say probably not, even with some magic content aware fill if such a thing was possible
The fence is too diffuse, covers too much of the image including important bits. There'd be no way to clone it out, I dunno though, maybe some localised colour adjustment or something might do the job ? I'm going to call a -1 on its chances though.

My only other suggestion would be to try and layer over the unwanted parts with a number of sections of nearly 'clean' similar parts and make sure to heavily feather in PS. Dunno how possible it would be to do a proper job

it looks like a Green plasticoated wire fence

    make a few copy layers

    try sucking 'the green' out

    work in the banded areas

    then layer it up

Yeah, cloning that out would be nearly impossible. Your best bet is to try to remove the green and replace it with the colours beneath it. It's so diffuse that the details are actually behind it, so getting rid of the green could work, or at least make it much harder to notice.

This is what i hate about taking shots at the zoo, I wont take a pic usually unless the fence doesnt show up in the final shot.

    Good capture though

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother trying to fix it. It's a lovely scene and a beautiful moment but the image isn't going to be rescued.

Far better would be to learn how to minimise it in the future:
    - Use your longest focal length (something like 300mm)
    - Your widest aperture (2.8-5.6)
    - Get as close as possible to the fence (though, this is a cheetah so don't go past the safety railings)
    - Try to have your subject as far away from the fence.

This will diffuse the effects of the wire as much as possible, though nothing will eliminate it.

Edited: e.g., this one shot at Fota through the wire fence. You can still see the effects of the wire (which is why I had to dig it out of my bin) but it is minimised.

This really isn't a good capture, it COULD HAVE been a good capture but there's a FENCE IN THE WAY. It's good that you like it, I have plenty of shots like this where objects are in the way, but I keep them to myself because they're my memories even though they're technically bad shots.

@dineenp I'm sorry, and I really don't mean to be rude, and seriously you can flame the arse off me here because I'm grown up enough to take it, but seriously THERE'S A GODAMNED FENCE IN THE WAY. I suggest that you go back and hope for a similar scene, but make an effort to get the shot WITHOUT A FENCE IN THE WAY.

Sorry, feel it had to be said before the CS5 fraud squad suggest how to create a frankenstein by REMOVING A GODAMNED FENCE THAT WAS IN THE WAY.

Gah! I give up, really, I do, I give up!

I am with Ricky91t on this one. Get CS5 and use the content aware fill to remove the fence.

PM me in a week or 2 if you cant get it and I'll see what I can drum up for you ;)

Seems like it would be easier to keep the fence in and remove the cheetah ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭nonsequitir

There's always the option to use like, umm, layers. And you know, like, umm, get a cheetah like from like, you know, the internet. and like paste it in and maybe, you know, like umm, paste in a fence in another layer, and then like delete it so you can see the cheetah and then you'd have what you need, you know - a cheetah WITHOUT A GODAMNED FENCE IN THE WAY!

Content aware won't get rid of it properly

That simple, eh? Sounds like a 30 second job. Why not do it for him, show him how it's done?

Tricky image to fix as the fence area isn't as sharp, excessive photoshopping can have a negative effect, you could remove the green colour (suck out the green:D) to make it stand out less. Heres a quick colourized version

Or are you just being a condescending prick for the sake of it?

Clearly sarcasm is lost on you, but that's okay, this is a forum after all. I can see how you could read it that way.

I really did think about penning an eloquent rebuttal for your nonsense response but instead I'll have a laugh at your expense for the sheer impotent inelegance of your "challenge" and supreme ability to miss the point and have a glass of red to toast this!

That and the conservation of the animals?

Right here is my attempt (coupled with my post-processing style!)

It took about fifteen mins and I didn't really go into detail. It was edited between Lightroom, Photoshop and Paint.net. It could definitely be perfected
with a bit of TLC on the more detailed areas but you are looking at a half hours work on top of the fifteen mins.

Convert the image to B&W in photoshop and then the green bands won't be so obvious. And then maybe a little work on the levels to give it more definition?

That looks good. Was planning a trip to the zoo soon (Weekdays in the morning while the animals are still energetic and not too many people around is best I've been told) so will put it to good use.

Ah, what you needed was a good pair of (long) snips, and then a few tie-wraps (or is it tyraps!!) to stitch it up again, just in case the mother calls back !! :-)
