I was roped into doing the clare 10k on the 26th of june for charity by a couple of friends. At first i tought ahh sure ill do it for the crack and if i have to walk most of it what harm :D. But after going out for a few runs over the last 2 weeks i have caught the running bug:). My first run wasent great only about 3k and had to walk a gud few times but that was 2 weeks ago now today i went for a 6k run and got around in 33.40 I only had to stop and walk for 1min after a steep hill at about the 5k mark, I know its not a great time but i feel it is someting i can build on.

I was hopeing to finish the 10k in under a hour or if possible less then 50mins.

With the race so near is it a reaslistic goal? Any advice or tips?

As it is your first race i say just get out and enjoy it. Keep up the training and good luck.

go out running 3 or 4 times a week. Mix up the speed and distance of your runs. Have one long run, that gets a little longer each week, but you run slower than you feel you can. Make your other runs shorter (say about half the distance), but run them faster.

hi shane, i'd say just go out and enjoy the race, do as well as you can but don't have a time hanging over you. i'd say it is acheivable tho, loads of time. there's a running group starting up sat morns in Newmarket, that's a great way to improve. best of luck

First of all fair play and welcome to the ART section. 6k in 33mins is not bad at all - just being able to run 6k is a good achievement. breaking 1 hour is certain if you keep working between now and the race the way you have. just make sure you keep upping your one longer run by a little bit each week until you are up to 10k or even 11k. only do one quick run a week 3-5k and try do one or two others easy that you just enjoy them. dont put too much pressure on yourself. you will improve slowly but surely as you get fitter just dont overdo it and risk injury (the enemy).

enjoy the race, you do great

Welcome on board Shane. Enjoy your running, take it easy and don't expect too much of yourself too soon.
