I'm currently training for WWROAR and GFW with my wife, it's going well so far. Difficulty is that we naturally run at different paces, so should we alter (she speed up & I slow down) to match or are we better off running separate circuits at the same time at our own paces?

Dude, she's your wife, why are you asking us?

Seriously though, if it's her first race then she'd probably like you to run the first one with her, and then you could run the second one at your own pace. My advice on that would be to talk it out now, agree what's going on, and make sure she knows what you intend to do for either race, as if you tell her on the start line 'see you later' you probably won't be getting any dinner for a week!!
I know my wife was delighted when I paced her for her first race, and I really enjoyed it too, made all the better by her acheiving her target. A 10K race two months later I spoke to her several weeks in advance and said that I wanted to go for a pb and all was good :)

That's what worked for me, but it is your marriage
    Good luck

Run at the pace ofthe slowest runner, maybe do a few miles before you go out together.

    :o oops

Sorry r0nanf, I misread and thought you meant the race
I see Shels read it correctly and that you actually meant training, and not the race

    Must learn to read better

Thanks for the advice! Thing is I feel I tire quicker when slowing down as its taking energy to slow my natural pace, is that not as counterproductive as having someone speed up?

Good luck to you telling your wife to speed up :D

You will be slowing down I bet in the end

I think you should maybe train for WW Roar with her and do the race with her also. Theres plenty of time to train harder for GFW after. In GFW you have the chance to select a quicker time than her and go off at a different time, she will probably be more comfortable with this having got the first race over with

Why did you decide to do these together in the first place,
RonanF = To get fitter, stay out of the pub and it would be a bit of craic
Mrs RonanF = To get to spend more time with Hubby

Try and keep on her good side as regards the training for as long as you can, it makes a huge difference in the long run.

+1, your not a horse who uses energy by pulling. running slower is so much easier

no, running too fast could lead to injury , Depends on how fas and how slow really

Myself and my OH started running at the same time. For a long time he was faster than me so we ran together for first mile or two and then he went off at his own pace. Last summer we were pretty much at the same pace except he might be stronger finishing a run so he'd go off on his own for the last mile or two.

I find it puts me under too much pressure if I have to keep up with someone elses pace if they're much faster than me so would prefer to do it separately.

Having said that it's nice to have the company while you're on training runs.
