Atletico Madrid v Liverpool 8:05 Inter-Railing around Europe Match Thread

So after an epic trip involving 6 different coaches, 3 different trains and one flight Liverpool have a game at the end of it all, against some crowd in Madrid.

Nice for Pepe to be back at Atletico but according to an interview Torres won't be at the stadium because he'll be working on his recouperation at the clinic in Barcelona.

Don't know much about Atletico but Aguero is out so that has to be a positive. Given the difference in home and away from since Christmas I'd be delighted with a score draw and even a 2-1 loss wouldn't be the worst in the world, just getting that cruical away goal is all-important.

Reckon the Liverpool lineup is most likely

    Pepe
    --Johnson-Carra-Soto-Agger--
    Masch-Lucas
    --Kuyt--Gerrard--Benayoun--
    Dave

Babel might swap with Benayoun but I think Benni is a better bet.
Bench isn't exactly heaving with quality

Subs: Cavailieri, Ayala, Aquilani, El Zhar, Babel, Pacheco, Degen

Players who travelled who won't be on the bench: Hansen &Plessis

Probably swap Babel with Yossi but that team should be nailed on unless Rafa pulls out a trick like he did at the Nou Camp three years ago.

Think it would be a great game to stick Aquilani in.

That's what I think could be the trick he has up his sleeve for 2nite. Play Gerrard back in the middle possibly.

    Could be an interesting game.

Athletico have a useful squad and can play some very clever stuff at times, especially the interplay coming in off their left side.

I do think that they will try to put the tie to rest tonight though, and leave more gaps at the back than normal, as their away record this year is even worse than ours.

They are quite prone to conceding home and away this season. They average just over a goal a game against them at home, and almost two goals conceded a game away, so an away goal or two could be on the cards tonight.

I think it could be a good game for goals tonight with a final score of 2-2 or even a 3-2 that could go either way.

Yep another trophy in this comp would make us the team that has won it the most.

Dont want to start a stampede to the bookies but just heard we will be wearing that Black away strip. We haven't won in it yet.

We had never won on a Monday night under Rafa until a couple of months ago either, and never lost at Anfield when Nando scored until the Villa game earlier this season.

I would be more concerned about the effects of the long trip than what they are wearing.

I'd snap their hand off for a score draw now, tbh.

Madrid will be well up for this given that they've all but given up in the league.

Plus Liverpool have had one cnut of a trip after a game on Monday night.

    Backed Atletico at 2.56.

    A. Madrid's home record in europe is pretty poor

    Won 1
    Drew 5
    Lost 1

Decent ball playing team. Their left is going to be a big source of attacks. I mentioned it earlier in this thread that the interplay coming in from their left has been very good at times this season, and that line up does not change my mind about that for tonight.

Babb just said Rafa breached contract by not guarenteeing fourth place. Yeah sure that will hold up in court:rolleyes:

Keep an eye on Lucas twitter during the game sots - if its updated during the match then it's definately not the real Lucas :D

Pretty sure Babb broke his contract by pretending to be a defender. :)

And might have broken something else when the goalpost tackled him.

Erm what was that about Neville snogging Scholes?

Neville planted the lips on Scholes after the game at the weekend

That was a stupid comment by Babb about Rafa promising 4th, Phil Babb QC

Masch looks like he's struggling according to the lads on Ch5 - pulled up with a hamstring problem an is moving a bit gingerly. Don't like that considering we're away from home but if it's serious I'd assume Gerrard slots back and Aquaman comes in behind N'Gog
