I'm currently training for an Iron Distance triathlon which will take place in mid-August.
I'm signed up for the Joey Hannon Olympic Tri in one weeks time and am now considering doing the Sperrin Half Ironman which is on a week after Joey Hannon (8th May) - as it's the only organised HIM race that I'll get a chance to do prior to August

    The question.

Is it OK do an Olympic Tri on the 2nd of May and then a Half Ironman on the 8th of May, if i take it easy at both events?

My main focus is race prep for August.
Thoughts from those who are familiar with IM would be much appreciated!:pac:

If you are just going to take it easy at both why bother doing either?

The HIM is over 10 weeks out from the IM, you could race it and it should have no negative effect on your IM.

Or race the standard distance, but faffing around both contributes nothing.

    Similar question.

I'm doing the Olympic distance Triathy on the 5th of june and that is what i have focused my training on.

There are sprint lenghts in galway city a week before it and a week after it which i am concidering just cos they are both handy and local.

Would doing the sprint the week before mess up the olympic in athy even with a full week of rest? And would a sprint a week after be pointless?

Looks like there will be at least 3 of us at the start line for Sperrin, so...:)

Anyone heard any more from the organizers? The web site is eerily static...

I wouldn't see any major impact to doing the 2 back to back, even if you tore the ar$e out of Joey!
