This has probably been done before (apologies if it has). I was wondering how what the average distances on here is for hitting various clubs?

    Driver
    3 Wood
    5 Wood
    Hybrid
5 iron (4 iron if you use it often)
    6 iron
    7 iron
    8 iron
    9 iron
    PW
    Wedge

I can fly my 54 degree wedge 100 meters.
    8 iron 150 meters.

I then just add or subtract 1 club per 10 meters.

Im inconsistent with my drives, I can hit a cracker 270m but my average
drives are 230/45 meter with the nice weather & firm ground we have now.

Driver any where 250 and 320 yards
    5 iron 200
    9 iron 150
    abot 12 yards between clubs.

These are my winter distances, so basically no carry.

I've only got a few off the tip of my tongue, will post all later.

    Niblick - 80-90 yards
    LW - 110 yards

    9i - 135 yards
    8i - 148 yards

    3W - 230-240 yards
    DR - 260+

Ill have to remeasure them over the coming days to get a proper feel for my woods length, taking roll into account.

    Handicap 13 lowest was 9.

    Best round 71

    8i 130

    PW 95

Lob wedge 50. (I've hit this 2 inches to 150 yards...it needs more bounce and now is left out of the bag :) )

All averages discounting good and bad freaks.

Strange that you hit your 5 iron 210 and only hit your 4 iron 5 yards further, with a 20 yard gap between 5 and 6 iron...
Also, 285 is and impressive average for the driver, any idea of your swing speed?

im in the same boat as that, 1 year back now after a 10 year hiatus, i think its been about 12 years since i played a GUI singles competition.. but anyway, im playing lots of new courses each few weeks, and am consistantly improving, last few rounds have been about 12/13 over. so I think i'm not far off getting back to my level from before. just need some short game practice and a course to play on regularly :)

    58 LW 75y
    SW 105y
    GW 125y
    PW 140-145y
    9i 150y

    10yards a club upto 4i
    (Irons all have strong lofts)

Driver no idea guessing around 240-250 max
    2i hybrid 220.

    hcp 12
Would happily lose distance especially with driver for more consistency

Some of these distances seem a bit far-fetched. I'm not accusing anyone of being dishonest but Tiger Woods only hits his 8 iron 156 yards (about 140m)!

    Oh, actually I wasn't.
I can't hit the ball a mile but then again I'm a millionaire so screw you guys, I'm going home.
    Oh alright then.

53 degree wedge 96 yards carry.
    PW 110 yards carry.
    7i 145
    3i 200 carry
    4 rescue 210 carry
Driver, 3 wood, 3 rescue unknown carry.
Above are summer distances in yards of carry, play off 4 handicap.

very similar to mine also, but i have different wedge lie angles.

I also out drive nearly everyone i play with (not all, but vast majority),
and no one ever hits a 9i or better from 150yards in my company, im between 7 and 8 for that, most i play with would hit a 6 or 7, while a fair few would gi with an 8.

depends ofcourse if people are including role, hard fairways, links/parkland, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭jimmystars

I play with a guy who hits his can hit his 8 iron 180 yards. The only thing is that he has such a forward press it must have the loft of a 6 iron. I think this is a reason for inflated distances in a lot of cases.

    Hcp 8
My distance varies from day to day but would gauge my 7 iron around 150 yards and work from that depending on conditions.
Can let my driver rip on occasion and would expect around the 250 mark on average with 30 yards deviation depending on how im swinging.

    hc 5

    driver 250-270
    3 wood 235
    19 deg hybrid - 200-210
    4 - 195
    5 - 185

    9 - 145
    pw - 135
    48 - 120
    52 - 105
    56 - 90

usually try & swing in balance, so at about 80% effort. i guess if pushed it into the red then could get more distance but would be all over the shop.

I've no accurate idea of my own currently, but a couple of years ago, while I was off 3, they would have been similar to above, maybe a little less at the driver/3w end but pretty much spot on for the mid to short irons.

I was playing today in a stableford. Uphill par 3, 175 yards to the centre of the green. Bit of breeze into. I hit my 18* hybrid. Albeit a little too much club. No word of a lie, my mate hit his 8 iron pin high. In fairness he hits everything further than anyone I've ever seen.

Almost the same with irons Nemesis. I calculate up and down from 7 Iron - 140 yards with 10 yards between clubs , PW would be c. 105 though.

Im measuring with roll on the driver since we've got some now with firm fairways in Loughrea. Carry on my irons as i hit a high ball so they generally stop within 3 foot.

Again, I dont see what the fuss is about. Im very long off the tee. On Wednesday last I was pin high in two to two par 5's off back sticks, first was 458 meters, I hit drive & utility 18˚. (carried the hill with my drive which is 260m uphill so had a shorter down hill second shot in)

On the 18th (340 meters) i had 42 meters left to the pin after my drive. (my longest drive of the day) Left the 58˚ short & took three shots to get down so made bogey. I guess what im trying to say is that people who are long hitters arent always great golfers y'know.
Its all about GIR. If yer drive is a ripper but yer behind some tree hacking out then yer shooting for bogey which is often the case with me.

I hit 8 iron 150m. 54˚100m. I work out all my distances from the 150m marker & use a laser range finder which is bang on.

I think as a +3 handicapper he might know what he is talking about. He also would have encountered hundreds of other low handicap golfers and probably finds it very hard to believe that you hit your eight iron further than Tiger Woods.

I just thought of something though, are you guys all playing with Topflite XL's?
