Best way of selling my Rover

    Hi,

I'm looking for some advice. I have a 2001 Rover 45, 1.6l petrol, c. 180,000 miles, no NCT, taxed until the end of June 2010. The car itself is in decent condition and with a bit of work (needs a full service basically) would pass the NCT.

Now, I might have the opportunity of getting a newer car but would need to get rid of my Rover if I do this. I won't have the opportunity to use it on a trade-in and would basically be selling it privately to try and get the best price.

I've been considering Merlin's Car2Cash offer and also the normal auction. Would anyone say that there would be any point in placing an ad in the likes of the Buy and Sell or would I just be wasting my time given what I am selling? Any idea what I could expect to get for my Rover?

    Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Worth f all really with that sort of miles on it, good minty NCTd ones with less than 100K miles struggle to make €1500. Donedeal.ie it for €400 or so and see what happens. Is the gearbox whiney at all ?

Is that a Ronda model (mainly honda, with some Rover bits)?
If it is a Honda engine and gearbox I would add that info to the ad, it's the rover engines (mainly) that people are paranoid about?

180k miles without NTC would kill my interest right away, no matter what brand.

Take it to the test, pass it and you might get something of it. Without the test, I really cannot see why someone would like to buy it.

I'd stick it up on www.adverts.ie or www.donedeal.ie and say you are open to offers. With that mileage, no NCT and in need of a good service nobody is going to take a chance and spend alot of money on buying it. If someone offers you a few hundred euros for it then I would take it.

I think the auction could be a non starter as if you do manage to get a few quid for it by the time the auction house take their commission you would be left with very little.

Another option might be to strip it down and sell the parts off individually but that might involve alot of hassle and time.

No Honda engines were in the 45s.

Thanks for the replies. Think I'll just try my luck on adverts.ie or donedeal.ie and hope for the best. I wouldn't be expecting a whole lot anyway. Even if I got a few hundred for it it would beat paying to scrap it!

It's worthless without an Nct anyways, just get whatever you can get for it and forget about it. Enjoy your newer car..
