Hanging around train stations in the UK

Not really due to the volcanoe, but just decided to get the ferry and train over to the UK due to the price at short notice as much as anything. But because of the boat I'm getting over it looks like I've got to spend a few hours somewhere between the last train on the Sunday stopping somewhere, and the first train on the Monday morning for the next part of the journey.

So does anyone know anything about which station might be best to spend just over four hours sat around in the early hours of a Monday. My options look like Holyhead, Chester or Crew, with Chester looking like it would get me to the final destination quicker.

I'd expect Holyhead to be a touch safer to hang around until the first train out in the morning, but that won't get me there until a couple of hours later on the Monday. So, am I better off stick at Holyhead, or chancing the other stations not turfing me out onto the street for four hours?

in holyhead you have the ferryport which is open 24 hours what with late night ferries and stuff so that is your best option, its next door to the railway station too

crewe would be best after that, seeing as its the crossroads of rail travel in britain there is always people there, even in the early hours of the morning waiting for some train and yes i have been there at 3 and 4am in the waiting room on freezing january mornings :(

    Thanks for that.

I figured Holyhead would be no problem, but don't like the idea of getting off the boat and then deliberately missing the next train to leave just for the sake of a slightly busier surroundings. Once they are not going to kick us out of the building I'll be happy enough in Crew then I think until just before the first train past at 5am. Shame I can't get as far as Birmingham before the trains shut down for the night, but have to make do.

nah you will be fine in holyfield, there is people coming and going all the time at the ferryport, nobody will even take notice, anyway some people have prebooked times on their rail tickets so they have no choice but to wait, its been a few years since i have been over there but i used to do that trip 10 or 15 times a year at the back end of the 1990s going over to premiership matches (before they brought in low cost air travel)
