    Hi,

I have applied for an unpaid internship in the US for the summer and will have my interview tomorrow.
I was just wondering if I will require a visa for this type of work or will a tourist visa suffice?

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

How long is it for a tourist visa may not be long enough to allow you to stay for the whole length of the internship?

I'd imagine you will need some sort of Visa to state you are doing an internship, maybe an educational based visa?

I'm no expert though, will be interesting to see what others with more experience say

As far as I know a tourist visa is valid for 90 days and the internship is for 10 weeks so that's no problem.

I'm just worried that if I do need a certain educational visa that it may not come through on time and I'd hate to have to turn it down over something like that.

I was thinking a J1 visa may work but if I could just get by on a tourist visa then that'd be great.

You are not allowed to work on a tourist visa; so yes, I'd guess a J1 would be required. The best bet is to simply call/e-mail the American embassy though.

Thanks. One thing I forgot to mention however was that I'm currently finishing up in college with my exams in 2 weeks. Is it possible to obtain a J1 visa though I am finished college?

You can obtain one in your last year indeed.
