just got my hands on Ash's new A-Z series. I'm not an ash fan but I have to say this is a good collection of songs. Best I have heard in a while up there with The Courenteener new album (for all their limited ability). I cannot understand why some of the songs did not get alot more recognition on radio.

I'm a big listener to alternative radio shows and radio stations like Phantom etc.. Cannot understand the **** the continue to push at us... classic examples include Delphic and Fight Like Apes - pure ****.

Any thoughts on other **** act's radio continues to push on us ?

As far as I know Ash are on their own label these days so not having a major behind them to push their music could be part of why you hear less of them these days.

Other than that though it could just be down to popularity. What you think is rubbish, somebody else loves.

Phantom overplays the same stuff over and over & I don't even live in Dublin to hear it all the time to know that. I listen to it on the M50 in and out of Dublin once in a while and never hear anything interesting. It's like when you put your ipod on shuffle and all the obvious songs by the bigger bands come on that you just have to skip.

Oh and they throw in crap like Fight Like Apes once in a while.

maybe advertisers demand more "commercial" music, I dunno.

ont really sure how people can stand to listen to phantom during the day...

Can someone explain to me how alternative = ACDC?

ACDC has to be one of their most played bands... mind-numbing

Stations like Phantom only have a play list of about 200 songs they are allowed to pick from. This is the reason who only ever hear a certain track from your favourite band and not some other obscure but better song from the same album.
Hasn't Phantom also changed its identity to a 'rock' station and not an 'alternative' one?

Go away would ya, Ash haven't been off the radio since Eyjafjallajokull halted all flights in Northern Europe. ;)

Ya I must get that myself, I've really liked all of these songs I've heard so far from the A-Z.

This sums up radio station choice of music quite well...

    Slightly NSFW

Even shows dedicated to 'alternative' bands will carefully select bands that have been shown to sell records and keep listeners tuned in. There will always be a token new band played on these shows every now and then.

Madly, this is where the pirate stations used to really stand out because the people playing the songs were genuinely interested and didn't have a computer select their music for them or have to satisfy the revenue demands of the show...

In all fairness to Phantom though they give the Irish bands a good plug. Has Oh Emporer on last week and overall, I haven't seen much evidence of them playing the same songs over and over unlike some other stations

Stations play the same music because it hits the largest part of their target audience. You're not the largest part of their target audience. Get an iTrip/other mp3 playing radio device and play the music you want. That's what I do.
