    Hi guys, having a bad week with my guns. ejector not working on shotgun, and then this evening out shooting a few crows my krico .22 started playin up. only firing every second or third shot. its an old semi but i like it for rabbits and crows. just wondering should i get it fixed or should i just buy a new one. still waitin on my licence for the sako quad .17hmr i bought 2 months ago. Will the 17 make a mess of rabbits? Whats the best to go for in a .22? semi/ bolt etc?

    Semi - Ruger 10/22
    Bolt gun - CZ452

    They'd be my two no. 1 choices in each category.

    A worn out semi will break your heart, especially a Krico.
    Shoot the rabbits head shots and then you can use the body for the pot no matter what calibre.
    .22 Bolt action Anschuts or sako are a great rifle. Very accurate.

    Ruger with a heavy barrel are the best semi's IMHO 10/22

    They group well with Heavy barrel, I had a tiny weeney barreled ruger and groups were not great.

    They come in a heavy stainless version best of them IMHO

    If you are taking opinions and money is "loose" may i suggest the Anschutz 1710 D sporter. Great rifle, accurate, reliable and with target quality grouping with a light sporting style you have the best of both worlds. Prices new can be in the €1500 mark. I'm sure there are a few second hand ones though (with scopes) for less.

    They group ok, but not great. Definitely not a gun for target use, but they do group minute-of-bunny no problem out to 50 or 60 yards. Got mine in Duffy's of Galway, am sure most others would have them; fairly common rifle.

    Thanks for info guys. The ruger 10/22 is more in my budget but thanks for the suggestion Ezridax, looks a lovely rifle. Have a fairly new scope on my own krico so that would do the new gun. its a nikko sterling 6x40, is that suitable for .22??

    Your just after buying a quad why not get a .22 barrel for it? cost about €150 for new barrel AFAIK

    i had a ruger semi 10/22T and the accuracy out of the box was disappointing to be honest, what you will pick up for small money is an anschutz 1422 bolt action, i have one with double set triggers and it is just amazing accuracy wise, if you find a good one you'll keep it forever and never want to change it , steer clear of anschutz semi's too though ;)

    just want to be able to pick up the gun and not have to mess about wit barrells or worry about accuracy after changing barrells. Like the semi for rabbit shooting. anybody got a semi that was trouble free???

    Takes about ten seconds to swap over barrels as for accuracy, the engineering quality is good you won't need to re-sight your scope after changing barrels.

    Get a standard Ruger 10 22. They are reasonably priced and will take care of rabbits out to 70 yards if your a reasonable shot. I have one and have had no real problems. The only thing I would advise is to only use Ruger rotary magazines with it; other brands with higher capacities and things can be hit and miss and many can cause jams.

    Most dealers will have second hand 10 22s for good money.

    Sounds like a simple fix, check the pin protrusion.

    you should, the two rounds have totally different trajectory. The POI will be way off.
    You'll either need a;

    a) Sako Quad specific scope, with colour coded adjustments to match each barrell, or;
    b) Some marks on the turret of a regular scope to coincide with the zeros for each barrell

    As above and give the action a serious clean with solvent. Oil attracts dirt and can harden up over time, the safety on my father in laws shottie locked solid because of that.

    Ya Koro i did check the pin protrusion and the firing pin looks worn. Cleaned it all out and dropped it into gun smith. He said that parts were no longer available but to leave it to him for a week to see what he can do. Fingers crossed! Yes Mellor i was thinkin der was more to it than just puttin on barrell. Dont want to mess about wit all that stuff.
