Jesus loves you as he LOVED Jacob

Remember when Sawyer, Kate and Alex rescued Alex's boyfriend from the sensory torture room or whatever it was called. On the screen "Jesus Loves Yor as He Loved Jacob" appeared on the screen a few times and Karl repeats it after he's been saved. The way the sentence was phrased always interested me, Loved Jacob, as in past tense, as in he doesn't love him any more. If this is the case i was thinking that Jacob has been banished to the island for something he's done. I'm not saying Jacob was a saint or anything like that but maybe he when he was a "Man" like MIB claimed he was was, he done something to anger God, maybe MIB was involved and the difference is that Jacob excepted his punishment but MIB can't?

    Any thoughts?

Maybe they both are fallen angels?

    From Wiki
Allegedly, fallen angels are those which have committed one of the seven deadly sins. Therefore are banished from heaven and suffer in hell for all eternity. Demons from hell would punish the fallen angel by ripping out their wings as a sign of insignificance and low rank
Fallen Angels are believed to 'posses' human bodies once a year. Before this can be done the fallen angel must get close & gain the trust of the body it will posses.
" Although most Christians do not interpret this to mean that those who have committed this sin may be redeemed after the passage of two ages,[6] a tradition stretching back as far as Gregory of Nyssa and Origen has taught that the devil and fallen angels will eventually be saved

MiB claims that Jacob took his humanity and he has wanted revenge for it ever since. Maybe these two are on the island for committing sins as Angels, one wants forgiveness (Jacob), the other wants to continue on his rampage (MiB).

Is anyone else going to be really disappointed if any of the answers have links to Christianity or religion? I know I will be if any of this has anything to do with Jesus or angels.

Battlestar did this when they ran out of explanations, I hope Lost doesn't follow suit.

Yeah, I have enough problems with the ghosts tbh without bringing angels into the equation.

Well, in fairness, there have been religious references in Lost from day 1. It's actually a part of the show I really like. But it would be disappointing if the ultimate ending was all explained with religion.

This is what I think. I see alot of parallels with the film Dogma. Even some of the dialog once or twice.

Means it's more likely Hebrew than Christian.

Would tie in the numerology as well.

Religion, quasi-mystical or otherwise is the zeitgesit of the age. It wouldn't suprise me. Anyway, whatever the outcome is - it won't please all the people. It's the journey that counts.

Fwiw, I loved the end of BSG - and that had the whole religious vibe throughout.

    It's very much not...
I don't mind the religious theme. It's provided some of the most interesting aspects of the show. I highly doubt they will try to give it a religious explanation, I think it would be pretty terrible if it did.

Now must watch the final 10 episodes of BSG before it gets totally spoiled on me...

Really?? It wouldn't bother me at all, in fact I have always liked the biblical references in the show and the mythology.

I really hope the ending isn't going to be a big long spiel about Jacob and the Monster being angels with some mythological origins story.

This stuff only became a heavily discussed theme in the season 5 finale. I would actually prefer it to be more scientific based or at least for some attempt at a rational explanation. Magic and devils and all this stuff would be a cop out imo. I want it to end the way it began with an emphasis on the characters we've been with all along.

Nah to be honest any attempt at a science explanation will piss me off cause I'll be able to pick it to pieces. I'd much prefer 'God did it" like Battlestar cause that you just accept or reject (you don't even have to believe in God - its just a story). The science ending - too many plot holes and lose ends - would be unsatisfying.

A science ending surely can't be any more far-fetched than what they've come up with already with regards to the time travel and the donkey wheel etc.

I could accept the God aspect if that in itself was part of a science argument, i.e. some sort of simulated world argument. However if it's to do with Gods and magic spells and hocus pocus and all that stuff I think it would be dreadful. That basically sends out the message they were making it up as they went along.

I hope for an ending where you're left with a solid argument for both science and faith without anything conclusive, i think the finale will be open ended with many arguements to what happened, the reasons behind characters actions and I hope the writers never explain, its a show where the audiences mind was left to wonder whats happening and they shouldnt ruin it with a conclusive ending.

Me saying fallen angels was just an observation of a likeness to what happens with them and no doubt that the writers have looked at all this kind of stuff for inspiration
