On the evening of 20th April with the volcanic ash cloud still keeping Heathrow closed longer than anticipated British Airways planned to divert 11 long range flights to Shannon. In the event just 5 landed, three Boeing 777's and two Boeing 747's, before Heathrow opened for traffic and the others that had been holding…

On the evening of 20th April with the volcanic ash cloud still keeping Heathrow closed longer than anticipated British Airways planned to divert 11 long range flights to Shannon. In the event just 5 landed, three Boeing 777's and two Boeing 747's, before Heathrow opened for traffic and the others that had been holding continued to London. Of those that landed at Shannon four refueled and continued to London with one Boeing 747 over-nighting.

Fantastic shots, very very well done. I passed through the airport on the 51 bus last night so was delighted to catch a glimpse of them.

A very unique sight for sure.:)
