if they have a330 pilots stationed here to fly back the next day then would they have to have brought some other pilots with them to fly the 777 back?

If they flew back last night then they would need a fresh B777 crew to fly the return leg. Usually in this situation the return crew would have come as passengers. I do not think a A330 crew would be covered to fly B777's.

I am open to correction on this but I believe that A318, A319, A320, A321 and A330 flight decks are almost the same. Fly one then you are covered to fly them all. Well I think that was a major selling point Airbus used.
What I do know is B757 pilots can fly the B767 and visa versa. Flight Decks are similar. There are major differences between the A330 and the B777 but then Ethiad may have a different policy to other airlines.

a330 is different from the a320 family.. need different type rating for the a330

ah i thought the minimum time between the same crew flying back was a whole day unless it aint flyin back till tomorrow?

All I can find is that EY41 from Abu Dhabi arrived in Dublin at 10.27pm last night.
EY42 departed Dublin for Abu Dhabi this morning at 10.47am, 57 minutes later than scheduled. Provided it is the 'B777' there was plenty of time for crew rest.

my old company double man the crew on certain sectors we had crew bunks fitted some sectors 16hrs long.

I was on that EY42 today and it was an A330.

They had a second flight that was not on the boards though, or so the check-in lady told me.

EY42 is the regular scheduled flight.

ey42 was a 330. the 777 was flight number ey 1142,the crew arrived ,pax boarded then disembarked due to the crew not having the reqd 12 hour down time. it is leaving tomorrow.there were only 74 pax on board.it came in full but is going out practically empty
