CrossFit Ireland Events in May

    Hey all,

A short post to announce three events we have coming up in May

Saturday, May 8th - Mobility Workshop. Details on how to stretch, foam roll in order to avoid injury and reach your fitness goals that bit easier. Details here

Sunday, May 16th we've another One Day Introduction to Barbell Movements and Bodyweight Exercises. This is a chance for people who don't have regular access to coaching to get instruction on the major lifts - squat, deadlift, press, snatch, clean - and also bodyweight training like pull ups (kipping), dips and muscle ups. A review can be found in the last thread about it here and our information page is here.

Saturday, May 22nd, we've the CrossFit Ireland Fitness Invitational - your chance to test out your fitness levels in a fun, friendly competition. A couple of boardsies, including Hanley and G'em have taken part in previous events, and had a blast, so here's your opportunity to take part.

We set up these events so that everyone can take part, regardless of ability, from the relative newcomer to the top flight competitors. You can check out our dedicated Invitational Site here and the thread from the February Invitational here.

There's also a video of the last event here.

Again, we've just a lot of events clumped together in May, so didn't want to post three separate threads because that's just spammy.

    Thanks,
    Colm

Do you ever run anything in the Dundalk area or is it all done in your crossfit gym in Dublin?

How much is it to join crossfit and is there student deals?

The Invitational's are great craic. I'd urge everyone who's even got a passing interest to give them a go. I won't be competiting this time, but I will be along for the day.

I keep finding excuses not to make these invitational's. Seriously gonna do this one (as long as there's no OH squats or double unders) :D

*fingers crossed* for double unders. The key to elite fitness!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,234 ✭✭✭Edwardius

Registered. Should probably do some conditioning and stoopid double unders now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,025 ✭✭✭d'Oracle

I'm thinking of switching up to the CrossFit Witchita Falls programme for a month.

And competing (losing) in the invitational

Or I could just continue being a fat **** and trying to get strong at all costs.

Someone make up my mind for me.

Oh and Jeff, get the train to Pearse st station, walk to Stephens green, get the green luas.
The One Day introduction is worth all the hassle and money, if you are serious about training right.

gotta have the conditioning man or you will suffer big time

    This is my worry.
A month of two metcons a week most likely won't be enough.

    You've loads of time.

agreed and i reallllllllly urge people to turn up just to watch as it is an impressive event

If you'd like to call us on 01-2063669 we can schedule an intro session where we can go through our program, let you experience a workout, and go through membership packages and how to get started.

d'Oracle, I say enter!! You'll get a good handle on the workouts I like to program based off the CF.ie site and the previous three invitationals. I'm still testing the workouts but there's a few fun ones in there.

I would strongly, strongly urge people to go along and watch if not compete on the day. I guarantee if you go and watch you'll kick yourself that you didn't compete, and if you do compete you'll finish the day feeling like a kick-ass mofo. Cheesy as that may sound this is one day that's guaranteed to push you beyond what you ever thought you were capable of. The Crossfit facilities are fantastic, the guys who run it are brilliant, and the atmosphere on the day is just amazing - the CF regulars are a wonderfully welcoming bunch and you'll be made feel at home in no time.

Give it a try, it'll be well worth it!!

I hope I'm not the only one thinking this, but what if your cardio/strength levels are (in your own opinion) mediocre at best? I don't really wanna turn up and feel like an utter failure, y'know? :)

The guys are pretty sound at scaling. Otherwise at a given day in CFI i'd be stuck on the first rep in the first round... :D

    Here what's this about?

Unless your log is full of porkies, you would be competitive.

    They mightn't come up.
    You can scale them.
    Seriously, you should kick ass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

As the guys have said we make sure everything is scalable for the Invitationals, so everyone can take part.

Great to see such interest in this, even if you're only dipping your toes into fitness, feel free to come on down.

I don't know why everyone thinks they need to be some firebreathing weight crushing monster to compete... There's a huge range of abilities, and relative strengths and weaknesses there.

You're all just being cowards. Go do it.

Yes absolutely and no one is mean if you're useless, it's really fun.

We have done a double metcon week or "Mikko Salo" week before a few weeks out from the invitational. I found it good for prep'ing you for doing the 3 workouts in the one day.

Picking out metcons that I can do from the last week or two and doing a lift before hand.

Also gonna drill the movements I can't do.
Tonight I started drilling Double Unders, or at least trying.
They are hard when you have never skipped. Ever.:D

The last time I skipped was old school style in the playground where you fought over who did the jumping part :pac:

I can skip no problem but can't double under (never tried) :o
Gonna dig out my old skipping rope and start drilling them.

I'm not use to jerking/push pressing massive weight so that's something I'll have to drill also.

    Hey everyone,

The simplest and fastest way to condition yourself for this is to following the Crossfit Ireland Programming in our blog. The people that programme the weeks workouts are the same people that will programme the workouts on the day and will be testing workouts in the weeks coming up to it.

D'Oracle already knows this because he asked Colm but seems to be keeping quiet about it to the rest of you :D

We may also have a small token prize for the mens and womens winners if I can wrangle it,

    Tom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

Just to follow up from Tom's post we are happy to announce that we have recieved some sponsorship for a first ladies and first mens place on the day, details to be announced closer to the day when we have it confirmed.

Great to see the entrants in so far, we've a good few people who aren't fire breathing monsters, as Hanley has pointed out, so it'll be a great chance to see everyone take part in this event.

Also, we've two spots left for out one day course on May 16th. Perfect if you're not regularly exposed to coaching on the major lifts.

Just a little TTT with 18 days to go til the Invitational (spots still open for the one day course as well on May 16th)

We've a great range of people entered so far, from inspirational top athletes to casual crossfitters just taking part for the craic.

Today we posted A Brief History of the Invitational, for anyone that wants to know.

    Hope you enjoy it,
    Colm

Wish I could at least come over that day. Instead, I will be sitting all day in aconference room listening to talks. Anyhow, best of luck to all competitors, have fun and enjoy!

The Mobility workshop was a great learning experience.
Y'all can read about it in me Log.

Single post so you don't have to scroll through my snivelling log.

Mobility one sounded like a great idea. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of it.

We can do mobility work with you in a Private Session with you if you'd like? Also, keep an eye on our events page - www.crossfit.ie/events/ for more workshops coming up over the next few months.

We've one or two spots left for the workshop this Sunday and also seeing a lot of people outside CFI signing up for the Invitational on May 22nd.

    Yes.
And today is a rest day cos there is no way in hell I could max test jerks in my gym.
That said I could do the sprints, but that Troglodyte Eve made crap of me last night.

I did Monday and Tuesdays Wods.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭token

Ya yesterday was a tough one! I was trying to get away with doing Eve at 60kg but Colm was having none of it and made me go 70kg just before it started. Didn't finish that one within the 12 minute cutoff. Did well on Amy though because of sexy double unders.

    Ha! 12 min.
    Not a hope, I did like 18:23.

Also double unders are a mystery to me.
    I did more box jumps.
Thats 130 box jumps with shin splints, within an hour.
