Is Hand Sanitization Helping with nosocomial infections?

I'm curious as to whether there is any evidence that the more widespread use of hand sanitizers since swine flu has reduced nosocomial (hospital acquired) infections?

In my place of work (not HSE), we are encouraged to use it upon entering the building and before going into the canteen. A couple of people who returned from maternity leave commented that previously they got several colds when coming back after almost a year out of the environment, but that this hasn't happened this time.

Are people here continuing to use the sanitizers or now that the swine flu threat has receded, are former habits coming back (or are the sanitizers being restocked by the budget constrained HSE)?
