Well here we are again, another teenager with an hour or two under his belt looking for advise.

Pretty much my whole life I've been in love with flying - especially helicopters. I would of been 9 when I got FS2002, and since then I've wanted a career in aviation.

Over the last two years I've had 3 30minute lessons with Eirecopter and loved every second of them (Lee Oakes of Eirecopter called my flying "immaculate"), so we've established I've a love of aviation, I have a feel for what flying is like, and I'm not terrible at i - now all I need is the money!
Lee mentioned "a sponsor" after it - and I was gobsmacked, I didn't think anyone would pay or ever help to pay for my training! Do you guys/gals have any idea if this is what he meant, or have any clue as to who I would ask?

I have some other questions about the air corp etc, but I'd imagine they'd be better placed in the military forum?

Thanks for your time gents(/ladygents) :P

im a fixed wing man myself, never heard of sponsorship for rotary work(unless you include the IAC)even the airlines dont sponsor/train cadets anymore with the exception of two airlines based in the sandpit.
you could allways try www.pprune.com ( rotarheads section) or the Irish site www.flyinginireland.com

best of luck afaik most of the lads on this forum are fixed wing.

Thanks DB, I've noticed that about this forum (I'm a long time lurker! :o) that there are alot of fixed wing.
Usually FiI doesn't let me register, but magically it did this time
I was going to post on PPrUnE, but I thought I'd check more local sources first. Thanks for the help! :)

I think you've missed the boat on that one. As far I can recall the only sponsorship was from Bond Helicopters a few years ago. Even then you have to provide a substantial sum of money yourself upfront. So it was more subsidised than sponsored.

I'm afraid you'll have to find the money to fund your training. But if you are truly dedicated to becoming a pilot you will find a way. We all had to do it one way or another.:(

Hoping to get an appointment for Thursday in the Matter for my medical -my parents are crazy enough to give in to my 6 or 7 years of begging!

I'll be doing 10 hours then a break then 10 then a break then ten etc. etc., far from ideal I know - but heck - it's somethin' ! :)

Keeping a diary here, if anyone's interested.

Good luck to you son, I've just done three days of it. I remember being that enthusiastic once. Now, well it's a job. But it's still fun even if I could walk away tomorrow.

    Enjoy every minute of it.:D
