Anyone wear cheap(er) Asics?

Hi, I run in Asics 1130 but just looking for a cheap runner for general gym use etc. but that I still might do the occasional run in. I'd buy the 1150 on sale at the moment for 66 at elverys, but I really don't like how it looks and also I'd rather spend less money as I'll probably properly replace the 1130s in the summer. I'm a neutral runner, but I still like some support. Is the Blackhawk 3 any use? It's usually pretty cheap, does Elverys have it on sale? Also I saw the Virage-4 was cheap somewhere a while ago but I can't remember where. I did a couple of half marathons and a marathon in these Vertigos back in 07 and they cost €30 (I think I may have done a few 18 minute 5ks in them too!) and just wouldn't mind an honest-to-goodness cheapo pair again!:

Anyone have any opinions/prices on the cheap asics? Thanks!

I ran and trained for 2 marathons wearin asics stratus. no problems with them.

The "expensive" trainers are ususlly the ones with all the bells and whistles for over and under pronators(spelling). IMHO if you are buying neutral runners it is less expensive.

But in saying that, during sales the expensive runners can be got at bargain prices

    Much of a muchness

I bought the Blackhawks when I started running 2 or 3 years ago, thinking that as they were Asics they must be better than the equivalent Nike/ NW etc.

6 months later I had achilles tendonitus and had to stop running for 3 months. When I restarted I got proper video analysis and bought Kyanos and never had another problem. I've since replaced them after they wore out with Brooks Adrenelines and still no problems. The Brooks were a fair bit cheaper than the Asics, but I chose them because they seemed to be the best match (again after video analysis).

    I do pronate quite badly.

The two instances may not be related, and my son has borrowed the Blackhawks and been running in them without any problems but I wouldn't run in the Blackhawks again.

IMO you need to pay that bit more and get the go for a Cumulus, Nimbus of even my favorite the middle ground 2150 which is a light support shoe.

I've had nothing but bad experience with cheaper shoes.

It's worth noting that gym shoe is not the same as a running shoe. Gym shoes have more grip. See runners world for recommendations.

It wasn't until I laced up my first pair of GEL Kayano 15's that all my shin splints, foot pain and ankle trouble disappeared, having previously run in the cheaper variety asics. Maybe a placebo effect? Maybe luck? But I'm on my second pair of 15's and off to Elverys (26.2% sale) with my 103 beans to pick up a new pair of 16's today.

I mean - If I can spend upwards of 100 euro on sauce, taxis, a club and food of a Saturday night - I can easily justify paying it for good running "tackies" as we Limerick lads call 'em!

cheers for the replies - btw I'm not knocking the expensive runners - I recently retired some 2130s and use 1130s now, and will most likely replace them in the summer with 2150s/Nimbus or something like that. Just wondering if the old blackhawk is totally crap or not, ya know?! Regarding the gym shoe bit, nah just meant that I'd be walking around in them as well, i.e, not purely for running. I only use cardio stuff in the gym not looking for a sturdy platform for weights or anything like that. Just wanted a cheap shoe that I could throw around and not care if I lose. A spare pair I suppose. I found those old asics in the wardrobe the other day and thought to myself 'cool - wonder if I can get another pair for 30 quid like back in the old days?!' Hence I came across the Blackhawk. If they're even half as good as their NAME well come on...!

Took a trip into Elverys at lunchtime. Man the current 1150/2150 are ugly - am I the only one that doesn't like shiny and sparkly stuff? In the end, luckily they didn't have my size in the gaudy looking 2150 - so instead I became slightly tempted by these:

That's right. The Asics Patriot! €33 yoyos! Whose with me?!

Didn't buy them in the end, but when I'm going back to get the 2150s (I hope they don't have them in my size) I might be tempted again..
