GREAT ACTING SCENES

Robert Deniro - goodfellas, the scene at the bar where he realises he can just kill everyone and keep the loot.

There was a tv show a few years ago that replayed this exact scene in slow motion several (ok maybe 2 or 3) times going over it in an interview between repeats and the acting in that scene really is impressively done.

Al Pacino and Diane Keaton in Godfather 2. Kay (Keaton) tells Michael (Pacino) that her 'miscarriage' was actually an abortion, because she "wouldn't bring another one of your sons into this world".

The way Pacino looks at her, his face shaking slightly, before he lashes out, is amazing. Keaton's acting and dialogue in this is handled perfectly.

It's a scene that's always stood out for me.

Great scene and It is without doubt my favorite film of all time. I also love De Niro / pesci scene in Raging Bull. That scene where De Niro is trying to fix the picture on the TV set while also accusing Pesci's character of having an affair with his wife. This was when De Niro was king. I hope we seem him act like that again soon.

One of my favourite moments in any film is the café scene Michael Manns 'Heat'

Two iconic actors in the stand-out acting scene of the film.

Thanks for reminding me of this scene. Very powerful, they are both magnificent.

    Brando deserves a mention.

    One word:

    Sicilians

And this from my favourite film of all time, David Thewliss in Naked:

Just one of many intense scenes. Thewliss puts in one of the best performances you'll see on screen.

This is the scene Dempsey (above ) meant to post. A truly awesome and terrifying piece of acting by the great Joe Pesci from the greatest movie of all time in my book. I must say that the quality of clips have been brilliant and very entertaining - keep em' coming!

    Richard Harris in The Field
The part where he is in the priests house, with the priest and the yank, he is standing at the window telling them about the time he was bringing in the straw (or hay) with his father and his mother dropped dead, and he says to the father that they'll carry on and get the job finished first.
One of the best scenes in a film ever.

Jon Voight's speech at the end of Coming Home to the kids thinking about enlisting in the army to go and fight in Vietnam........one of the greatest pieces of acting ever. Brilliant stuff.

(sorry I couldnt find a link for the clip)

Good call, about 2 mins in onwards:

This is probably my favourite from it, though it's so hard to pick just 1 as it's one of the most intense, and immense, performances you'll ever see.

Keep an eye out for, a few seconds into the clip, his presence as he stands inside the door of the pub:

The Field quite simply has to be the greatest Irish film of all time (in my humble opinion anyway).

Great idea for a thread. Some of mine:

    Pass the asparagus:

There Will be Blood - Milkshake (Spoilers!)

    Requiem for a Dream

There will be Blood - Coin toss scene

Actually thought of some Ellen Burstyn scenes from Requiem when I saw this thread first. Good on ya.

The one, the only Awesome Welles and Joseph Cotton was no slouch either

Falstaff/Chimes At Midnight which is one of the greatest "performace" films ever made.

    Some great ones here!

I can't find the right clip, but the opening scene from Inglorious Basterds in the Farmhouse in intense with great acting on both parts.

Also, the bar scene. Full of tension like the former and brilliantly acted!

Excellent choice. Michael is absolutely terrifying at about 2:06.

Can't believe somebody mentioned this. Absolutely fantastic acting by Harris.

Recently I loved the deli scene with Mickey Rourke in the Wrestler

Again another brilliant scene - in fact everyone is brilliant but this little gem a lot of people don't think about. It also reminds us all what a colossus of an actor Richard Harris was. I loved the Orson Welles scene too and have never seen the Ellen Burstyn film which looks brilliant. Requiem for A Dream is a movie I very much intend seeing judging by that amazing monologue by Burstyn. Mickey Rourke ws robbed of the Oscar in my opinion.

another great acting scene is the masterbation scene with Naomi Watts in Mulholland Drive.

kind of an odd one maybe but at the end of scent of a woman where Pacino is wildly overacting at the school trial I think Philip Seymour Hoffman is fantastic here. He really underplays the scene

Was going to say the Pacino/Keaton confrontation in GFII but it's been mentioned as it's so good.

    My favourites are;
Jack Nicholson in One flew over the cuckoo's nest. When he's not allowed to watch the world series and act's it out to a blank TV screen.

Morgan Freeman in Shawshank, the final parole scene. You can feel the effect of time and anger in his voice and face.
"So yo go ahead and stamp you're form sonny and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don't give a ****"

Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan. After,
    Wade
    is killed
storming the machine gun nest. Miller's explanation of his former occupation and disappearing as the body is buried to burst into tears.

I love this scene from the movie Hunger. Brilliant dialogue and well acted by both! Split into two pars due to it length.

Was watching Mississippi burning recently and forgot how good a scene this is, when williem dafoes character final agrees to let Gene hackmans character do things his way

I love this scene (and the film) because of Christian Bale. The way he keeps calm while talking nonsense before switching to a complete psycho is fascinating.

I love this scene too. Again, the switch from confidence and calm to complete nuttery is brilliant.
