    Hi Folks,

I'm up in Maynooth this weekend for a family occasion and to bring my little lad to the Zoo for his first birthday.

I was hoping to get a long run in, and checked out mapmyrun which has a few although the routes are a bit all over the place and I'd probably get lost, as I don't know the area.

Aside from me print out these :p to run with, are there any nice running spots that would come recommended from the board?

    Many Thanks...

The canal is great and you won't get lost. You can get there at the back of the glenn royal or across the road from the carton house and many other places depending on where you are staying.

Someone posted this before: http://www.cartonhouse.com/upload/docs/Carton-Walking-Trails.pdf a run around Carton house grounds before. I haven't tried it yet myself.

How far do you want to run and where are you staying?

As MF says above Carton house is ideal although some of the walk ways have been closed off recently and the grounds staff will kick you off the grounds if you stray onto the course. The Canal is great. If you want to do something short you could run on the grounds behind the South Campus of the university. It's very picturesque and the surface is ideal. Running the perimeter you would get about 1.5 miles.

PM me roughly where you are staying and I can send you GPS data for some runs as I train most days in Maynooth.

    Thanks all for the suggestions.

Hoping to get the guts of 2 hours in, probably 13/14 miles on the flat. Staying up in the new estates at Moyglare, I think.

Something like this? All quiet roads, should be fairly traffic free at the weekend. Quite easy to follow also.

Canal would be ideal for you. Ever so flat. Out and back course. Birds, bees, no traffic.

    Sound,

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll take in a bit of everything, out to Carton, down to the canal, out to Kilcock and then back in the backroads, should be straightforward enough. All going well that is.

If it's flat you want then go for the canal, don't come much flatter. I went around Carton House a couple of times and found some hills in there but there must be some other paths around it as well that I missed, but could be useful for a bit of variety.

If you want to go out Sunday, you should pm jb-ski. He's generally out Sunday mornings in the Leixlip/Maynooth area with a group.

do they not have security guards at Carton or can you just enter at the main gate, park and go running ? Tried to go running in Mount Juliet in Kilkenny one time and was turned back by security.

Open to all, nice spot... and you can do a bit of z-list celeb spotting while running :D

No security guards on gates, you should be fine if you stick to the perimeter wall and don't actually run on the golf course. The trail around the course is much nicer than running on golf fairways anyway.
