plantar fasciitis

    Hello boards,
Right after what I initially thought was a bad sprain of some sort and continually ingnored, I've been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis this morn after running about 10k last thurs and subsequently put on crutches, anti-inflammation medication and future physio sessions to remedy this bloody thing.

First of all, I can't reccommend the staff at the new 'Mater Rapid Injury Clinic' highly enough as was seen by professionals who have more than a passing interest in sports injuries within ten minutes, treated and back on my way although slowly and under crutches within another thirthy. My question to boards however is, has anyone suffered from the same and how long did it keep them from running back in anger and apart from that already mentioned what did ye find helped speed up recovery?

Before the mods decide to come down hard on this, I'm not asking for specific medical advice which should not be given but knowing recovery time frames and common sense reactions to this condition would be helpful! Cheers all

I've been having that since i was 16, on and off. I had to stand for 8 hours a day at work and that is what triggered it. I only had it in the mornings and late at night.

I had it continuous for 5 months (all day, including night) but I have now invested in a pair of rolling shoes and the pain only comes back when i don't wear them.

Cheers for the advice but doubt I'd get away with wearing a pair of heeleys at work, 5 months doesn't sound too good to be honest but have heard estimates from one week to two months! Being out of action in the spring is obviously a pain in the **** but looking for boardsies relevant experience to get an idea of recovery times etc,

I'll send you a PM as I may cross over into medical advice territory.

Same as all injuries, there are different degrees to how badly you can tear the muscle. My training partner did his plantar last year, kept him out for 5 months.

From what I know of it, it's not the type of injury that you can rush. There are some practical tips that I've heard though that can help your recovery. One is to take insoles from an old pair of runners and put them in your regular shoes. Apparently it's important to support your arches and your regular shoes don't offer much support. Good luck!

<Apologies if this has gone into medical territory.>

I had it last year and it scuppered my Dublin marathon attempt. Symptoms appeared in July and I just tried to rest for a good few weeks, which was a mistake. By the time I eventually went to a physio, it took several sessions and a few months to clear up. I'll PM you with more of my experiences ... but suffice to say, I'm back at the same level of running and beyond now, and it seems to be under control.

PS. BTW. I think the "rolling shoes" Grindelwald is talking about, aren't "heeleys" :) I'd guess he's talking about MBTs or something like that. I couldn't see heeleys being all that helpful for Plantar Fascitis. Though maybe I'm wrong about that.

I have it too. Im running through it as its manageable at the moment. I wondering what to do if it gets worse though besides rest.

The rolling shoes have support for the foot arch, they also suport your posture and help tone butt and leg musles.

My main reason for buying them was for the arch support, and since wearing them the pain has gone.

they are called rolling soft by gabor.
Also sketchers do them in a runner.

I went for x rays and also given diafine cream and tablets and the pain always come back.

what makes plantar fasciitis worse is when you develop a heal spur, that would show up on an x ray.
