Rent Allowence

I recently applied for rent allowence but was refusedon the grounds that:

Applicant could not pay the rent into the future at the commencement of the tenancy.

Left confused by this I paid a visit to my local rent allowence officer. When asked to explain the above reason I was told that

"I couldnt afford the rent when I moved in so unless there has been a change in my income I wont qualify for rent allowence"

Im on Social Welfare Allowence. €196 per I can't get any lower!

When I moved in I paid my deposit and one weeks rent and every week after that.

I was also told that they have being refusing rent allowence applicants on a daily bases and only applicants that have recently seen a major drop in their income say someone that has losed their job and are now on Social Welfare Benifit or Social Welfare Allowence will qualify.

Can anyone shed any light on this.

    Confused and angry

Should that say "You could afford the rent" ?
Did you provide proof of income and state you had no other income besides SW payment etc.?
Appeal the decision in writing to the Superintendent CWO and read up on the rules regarding rent supplement at welfare.ie

To appeal this decision, you need to be able to provide evidence of your previous income in order "to show that you could afford the rent at the beginning of your tenancy and that you could have continued to pay rent but are unable to do so because of a change in your circumstances which occurred after you started renting."
