Oil based varnish over water based varnish

    Is this possible ?
    I have a timber cladded extension, really happy with it except that someone pointed out I should have used an oil based varnish on the out side instead of the water based one.
    What are peoples opinions on this ?
    What is the best make to use ?
    Can I just key the wood and paint on the new varnish ?
