Has anyone seen this show. I saw half of it tonight. It's so far removed from what I watch usually, but I need to find something light and enjoy it as everyone I know is watching these American shows. It seems funny enough. Opinions please....

I found this show dreadful and creakingly unfunny.

It is utterly cringeworthy and I will never have respect for Courtney Cox again. Cheesy gags and pseudo-feminism which is just inverted sexism that makes 'Sex and the City' look intelligent.
    Awful stuff.

It gets a lot better. I'm assuming this is an Irish pace discussion thread

Try thinking for a change? It's good for the soul!

Cougar Town is kind of amusing but it really hold no surprises, nor has it anything particularly interesting or insightful to say about middle age, divorce or sexuality. It's just a bunch of women running around acting like girls, a pretty formulaic Desperate Housewives lite, but there are a few decent gags and Courtney Cox can do comic timing, when she's not over egging it (which she does A LOT in Cougar Town).
A much better show in a similar vein is Hung. That is an absolute master class in comic drama exploring women's sexuality through the eyes of a middle aged divorcee and all around failure that becomes a gigolo. I think it’s a HBO series and unfortunately it has just finished it’s run on Channel 4, but I believe it’s been renewed for a second season.

I liked the Irish Times description of it last week, they said it's about the female equivalent of the dirty old man in a rain coat going around flashing and perving on young girls.
Except it's a dressing gown and perving on young boys in this case of course.

Yeah great article, have no interest in this show and a bit freaked out why this kind of inverted sexism is getting so commonplace - "Twilight Moms" who swoon over a topless 17 year old Taylor Lautner for example. Imagine how long a show with Rob Lowe perving on high school girls would last

Saw it last week. Rubbish designed specifically for women alone. It's not clever like Desperate Housewives. Based on the one premise and that is it... Throw it on the same heap as other women's programs like Grey's Anatomy

I'm just wondering are you watching this on the Irish schedule?

I ask because I thought the show was epic **** for the first 5 or so episodes and I think they saw it wasn't working and reformatted a bit - it does start to get quite good and funny and a lot of this random sex with teens thing ends post episode 5-ish.

Exactly, if you reverse the roles it's not funny - it's creepy, shouldn't be any different

Tis indeed, and a good one at that. But this is boards, the land of the pearma-miserable and whinge.

Really it shows how underrated Busy Phillips is as an actress, even in Dawson's Creek she was good. However this series is becoming my guilt pleasure, it's nice to see Monica from friends get her own show. It is a spin off isn't it :D
