    Hi all

Just looking for a bit of guidance. I am currently paid weekly but low and behold, this week I check my bank balance and no change.

I contact my employers office who tell me I should have been paid but a big cheque of a client of theirs bounced late last week and as a result some of us did not get payment.

He sounded sincerely sorry an all but that doesn't change the fact that I have bills to pay. They have not guaranteed that I will be paid by next pay day either.

    Any ideas anyone??

Thanks for that Danny, much appreciated. Makes it very difficult to do your job to your best ability when you haven't been flippin paid.....

Jaysus, go easy on the rights commissioner. If you stir up shoite for your employer it will come back two fold.

If it is the first time it has happened and you get paid in the next few days, then let it go. Jobs are hard to come by and everyone is struggling, employers included.

Happened to me before i didn't leave the office till i got something. bills have to be paid at the end of the day and no one should mess around with someones wages like that.

what industry are in, if you don't mind me asking

    Hi
I had this problem just before Christmas......Finally got the wages owed last week. Turned out that the agency I was working through had lost favour with the bank and went under as a result. We were taken on by another agency to complete the contract, but they didn't take on the wages. They at least put in writing all of this.

Perhaps get your employer to put in writing the fact that they will honour your wages, just not yet...... so at least you have something to show your bank. Might be worth cancelling any DD due soon so at least you dont get any charges.

Hope its sorted for you soon.

    Fran

Not trying to stick more doom and gloom on this but that is what started happening me in the summer of 2008. €200 short one week maybe €300 next week, of course all the time being told that we will get all our back pay. Long story short we got let go september 2008 and only got our back pay from the insolvency fund on january 2010 (nearly €10'000). If Iwere you I'd wait a few weeks to see if you get your due cash and if not I'd follow the other posters advice in engaging the rights commissioner..

Security, got into it after sales went dry in retail, enjoy it, varied work and all but need to be paid:)

@caoimhin: Hasn't happened like this before, am fairly patient so will give it a few days and see what happens.... won't go all guns blazing straightaway anyway! Thanks for that!

@Fran: Good idea about getting it in writing, should have thought of that myself!! Thanks again

@bryaner: Yeah I agree with ya there man, it's not a good sign it is?? All I can do is take it a day @ a time and see where to go from here, thanks!

Will keep ya posted on progress:)

We are in the same boat as you OP, happened last year, got paid in dribs and drabs, didn't get paid at Xmas, got it in Jan, now we are all owed 1/2 Feb, March and 20 days in April.

What can the Rights Commissioner do for us?

Whats lovely is that "due to stress" the boss who is meant to be out getting sales went to France over a week ago and is now stuck there while us poor runts are sitting here without pay.

IF we leave though we can't get social welfare so its a dog of a situation

OP, I have the utmost sympathy for you. If we assume your employer is honest then going to the "Rights Comm" will make no difference as he hasn't got the money. I know where they might find themselves, my company is being strangled for cash by customers not paying their bills on time.

Ouch. Some of our worst payers and defaulters are security companies. The industry has always attracted a certain type of fly-by-night operator (not you - the owners).

That's crazy, what makes it harder is the dry job market, in the past one would have just left when you were not being paid on time, now it's a different ball game. Hope you find something that pays you promptly!!

@ nipplenuts Yeah you're right there, problem is a lot of the time you're dealing with construction companies and the like who are slow to pay them, so it has a knock on effect. Think in my case, the firm relies far too much on one or 2 good clients who pay on time everytime. If one or more fails to deliver, we're in trouble!

    !

Thanks, been here 3.5 years so I have given him plenty of "good will" but problem is that IT jobs even in Galway ( I am based in Mayo so will have to drive) are just the same jobs there for months which seem to be phantom. Moving isn't an option so its not a great time now to be honest.

If he didn't pee off to France for a week holidays then we wouldn't feel so insulted but he was in Florida at Xmas while he didn't pay us either.

Its not very pleasant at all. :o

Yeah you're right... does seem to rub salt into the wound doesn't it?! My employers also take several holidays a year, including one this yr....
Now I understand personal wealth is different to the performance of a ltd company, but I know if it was my staff, I would make sure they were paid, even if it meant taking money out of my pocket, not just the companies!
