    Dave Spoon Biog

Dave Spoon is the alter ego of multi talented Portsmouth born Producer & DJ Simon Neale who set sail on his musical voyage at the tender age of 3 with his first mixtape. Forced to play the school trumpet at 10 years of age the young enthusiast developed a fascination with Electronic music from the likes of New Order and Depeche Mode. During 1988 and the height of the second summer of Love, a young Spoon got his first taste of Acid House upon hearing the classic ‘There’s an Acid House Goin’ On’ by Londonbeat, a defining moment in shaping the rich tapestry of a musical landscape that was to eventually blossom into one of Dance Music’s most respected names.

At high school a curious twist of fate led Spoon’s music teacher finding a Roland TB303 and Juno 60 tucked away gathering dust in a music room cupboard, both essential pieces of kit in the production of Acid House. This wondrous find combined with hearing a Kevin Saunderson mixtape was enough to get a young Spoon hooked and a foyer into production began.

Music and the pursuit of discovering and creating new beats quickly became an obsession. 140bpm breakbeats and Rave noises were the order of the day along with a new show on the BBC’s Radio One, the Essential Selection. A chance meeting with his hero Liam Howlett in 1993 briefly led to the Prodigy main man assisting Spoon in buying studio equipment.

Rave turned into Hardcore which quickly moved onto Drum n’ Bass for Spoon. Another career changing event occurred in the form of Sasha and his legendary 1995 Essential mix, production took a back seat and DJing took over, learning to build set’s and key mix, all inspired by Sasha. Fast forward to 2001 and Spoon discovers the mighty Reason software from Propellerhead while working in a record shop, this firmly puts Spoon back in the production hot seat with the most basic of equipment.

In 2004 Mark Knight signed ‘21st Century’, Spoons debut on Toolroom Records and the start of a beautiful friendship. Mark immediately drew the track onto the attention of the dedicated club masses by using it to open his Radio One Essential mix. Big news indeed.

2006 saw the release of ‘At Night’ again on Toolroom. The track quickly became a huge smash on dance floors across the globe, crossing many genres and getting incredible support from the likes of Francois K to Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk. The track later received a vocal from UK female MC Lisa Maffia and became a UK top 40 chart hit.

By now Dave Spoon was firmly established as a major force in Dance Music and became one of the most in demand acts both in the clubs and in the studio. In 2007 Spoon began a studio project with Pete Tong, the undisputed voice of Dance music. Their first release together being an awesome remix of Robyn’s ‘Every Heartbeat’ which went onto hitting the top spot in the UK top 40.

That brings us to 2008 in this extraordinary tale of a young man from Portsmouth with a big dream. From religiously listening to the beginnings of Radio One’s Essential Selection, Spoon was given a monthly show on the world famous station as part of ‘In New DJs We Trust’. This was of course a great honor and was the highlight of an amazing year that included his first summer residency in Ibiza for Cream, further UK top 40 success with ‘Baditude’, a remix commission from Madonna and the launch of his own label Televizion records.

And that ladies and gentleman brings us up to the present and into the now. From humble beginnings and an intense desire to create electronic music a kin to the heroes that he listened to in his bedroom, Dave Spoon has forged a formidable international career. Over recent years Spoon has remixed Dizzee Rascal, Beyonce, Calvin Harris, The Presets, VV Brown and Mr Hudson to name but a few. He has enjoyed success the world over in both the clubs and the charts with his own productions, held residencies in Ibiza, played at the world’s greatest clubs and hosted a regular show on BBC Radio One.

From 2010 and into the future Dave will continue to fly the flag as one of the finest DJ/Producers the world has to offer. Spoon will continue to develop his own label Televizion whilst also maintaining his connection with Toolroom. You will be able to catch the man in more of the best clubs and festivals and will see his music diversify and reach out. The future’s bright, the future’s Spoon.

    Funkagenda Biog
"Funkagenda is an outstanding talent, his sets can go from light and funky to dark and dirty in a seamless way that few Djs can pull off. Maybe it’s due to the fact that 50% of the records he plays are his own productions, which are without a doubt up there with the best! If asked to quote a name to watch for the future, Funkagenda is the first we think of..."

    Trophy Twins

"Not only is Funkagenda my favourite producer in the WORLD, but his tea drinking capacity is second to none! With over 20 cups a day this man is a tea drinking phenomenon. On a serious note, he is unique in his ability to produce and remix with such a diverse style all underlined by one word... QUALITY"

    Mark Knight

"Funkagenda is a hot new talent and definitely one to watch for the future. He’s versatile and manages to combine a musical edge with a tougher club sound that always works on the dancefloor. He’s been embraced by Big Love!”

    Seamus Haji

"I like what Funkagenda is doing. Basically almost everything he does is to me really fresh and great house music the way I always liked it and the way I will always like it....proper stuff..."

    Sander Kleinenberg

If you haven’t heard of Funkagenda by now then where have you been hiding?
Over the last 3 years, he has become a name synonymous with quality house music.

Already having featured on labels as prominent as TOOLROOM, POSITIVA, DEFECTED, AZULI, MINISTRY OF SOUND, SIZE, BIG LOVE and SUBLIMINAL, his production and remix skills are highly sought after worldwide.
And production is not the only string in his bow... His DJ talents are also a permanent fixture in clubs around the globe, with 2009 seeing him travelling to AMERICA, CANADA, RUSSIA, SOUTH AMERICA, ROMANIA, POLAND, SPAIN, FRANCE, ISREAL, SERBIA, GREECE and many more.

Starting his career at the age of just 13, helping to program backing tracks for his fathers club act, he quickly got a taste for music and life on the road. He formed his own bands at high school and became a multi instrumentalist, locking himself away in his home 4-Track studio for days at a time.
Then as he hit his late teens, amidst fronting a soft rock band, he was lured into the charms of dance music by the legendary VOODOO RAY.

From this point on it was a love affair, and whilst he continued to learn the more conventional side of music at college, with his A levels etc, he was burning the midnight oil in his home studio crafting Drum + Bass and Techno works.

In the late 90s during the house explosion it was here that he found his home. The hypnotic rhythms of ROGER SANCHEZ, DAVID MORALES and MAW were a perfect fusion of musicality + dance floor sophistication, and institutions such as WOBBLE and the mighty GODSKITCHEN were a Mecca for clubbers across the UK.
He began to learn the delicate art of DJing, although after years of manually timing beats on bargain basement samplers, this was not as difficult as he thought and soon he was picking up bar and small club residencies.
But his true love was production and at this point, with the price of a Dub Plate being about £50 it was not cost efficient to play your own material.

Enter the CDJ! Thanks to the wizards at PIONEER, many a bedroom producer now had the ability to play their own works out, and Funkagenda became a master...

Always re-editing and remixing tracks into his own style, his sets have a unique sound and began to catch the ears of many promoters around him, add to this the fact that his tracks are the flavour of the moment it’s no wonder he won best newcomer and best tune of the summer at last year’s Ibiza DJ Awards.

Currently enjoying huge support from the likes of MARK KNIGHT, PETE TONG, AXWELL, DIRTY SOUTH, STEVE ANGELLO, SEBASTIAN INGROSSO + even ARMIN VAN BURREN, Funkagenda is name is a driving force in house music today...

Look out form Funkagenda’s own record label Funk Farm hitting the streets soon.
