Survey - Superbowl ads and religion

    Hello all,

It'd be great if you could help me out here with a survey on Superbowl ads for college: I'm assessing Superbowl advertising and it's impact upon those who are not necessarily the target audience of the ads in question. (Given that up to 99% of the television owning US tuned into the Superbowl at one stage or another - and yet all ads appear to be aimed at the young macho market, it seems relevant to me, at least).

To date I have contacted Jazz musicians, footballers and the gay community. It'd be great if you could help.

I just need you to answer below with which of the ads you prefered (Superbowl or 'Regular') and if possible, why.
e.g. Would any of these ads encourage you to/to not buy the product it is advertising? Are any of these ads offensive to you in any way?

    1. FloTV

    Superbowl

    'Regular'

    2. Chrystler

    Regular

    Budweiser:

Your views will not be labelled as your username, but rather you will be identified by your contributions in order, i.e. User 1, User 2, etc.

Nor will your views be labelled as 'Christian'. I am asking you just so I can track down certain mentalities that do not conform to the stereotypical Superbowl users, i.e. the 'Jocks', the 'Basement drinkers', etc.

    Cheers!

Superbowl ads? What is this 'Superbowl' of which you speak?

You do know what the "ie" in boards.ie stands for?

It's a good point. We aren't the target audience.

Anyway, I'll try have a look at the ads later.

Yup, Im aware this is an Irish forum.

But the idea of the male and male sexual identity are pretty similar in 'western' societies. I was just asking for opinions on the advert and whether they were offensive, humourous or indeed whether they meant anything to you at all.

Given that a good percentage of ads played in Ireland are from the US (current examples that are on-screen now, off the top of my head: Kellogs', Dove, Coke, Budweiser...), and many of the Superbowl ads were adapted for general release (the above Dove for men one, for example) asking Irish people their view on ads that were played during the Superbowl really isn't that strange.

If you can help, please do. I'd really appreciate your feedback.

    1. Superbowl

    2. Regular

    3. Superbowl

The common denominator is humour more than anything else. Both Chrysler ads were pretty cr@p IMO, but if I had to choose, I'd choose the regular one. Out of dislike for the whole 'The Car is an extension of my manhood' vibe on the superbowl one.

The regular FLOTV wasn't funny, but the superbowl one was a little funny.
I like both Bud ads, and am a Beatles fan, but I found the superbowl one funny, so that got my vote.

None of them made me want to purchase their goods, but attaching humour to the ads will certainly make me aware of the products being sold.

As for offence, I can't see how they could offend anyone:confused:

Bar the last Budwiser ad, I couldn't connect with the others. As I could neither connect with the products they were selling or the stereotypes they played on, the first 5 ads were a complete irrelevance to me. So no offence caused but neither a customer gained. (These lifestyle ads don't usually translate well across cultures.)

As for the one ad that did register, beyond it being a good visual experience, I can't say that I now feel an insatiable desire to start knocking back the Buds, but then again I never do. Interestingly, I think there is a conceptual and visual similarity ("sonic landscapes") with Star Guitar by the Chemical Brothers.

Hope that provides some sort of answer.

    Cheers Fanny.

...Dunno how I didn't see the Chemical Bros similarity before. Genius video that.
