I heard exams next week are probably postponed because of difficulties for so many people of getting back... Anyone got any info?
I heard they were postponed in UCD already.

Im sure if they're postponed it'll show up in one of those two places.

In fairness how many people leave the country the weeks before their exams? I know people do (I almost did, and would've gotten stuck in London), but as a percentage of the student body, it hardly seems worthy of postponing exams altogether.

Ha, where'd you hear that? Not a chance. And where did everyone decide to fly off to a week before exams?

I hear the problem is more some of the staff and the admin that were caught on the hop

Ah that'd make more sense. While I'd love more time to study, I've already planned holidays really soon after the end of my exams, so I don't really know if I want this to happen or not!

That I could buy, but even so... teaching staff will have set exams already, and even though they're supposed to be around during exam time, presumably it'd just be a case of ensuring they were contactable via phone during their exams. And equally, doubt that the admin staff that are still around are going to create more work for themselves by trying to reschedule exams...

Oh i hugely doubt this! The majority of students gone anywhere are gone to england, which, to be fair they can get back from by boat no problem if theyre bothered. A few may be gone further afield. Thats where supplemental exams come in.

On the staff issue, all lecturers had their papers submitted by 19th march i think was the date, and the lack of admin staff or whatever isnt going to have such an impact as it would with changing dates. Remember people will college accomodation even would have to have their residense extended, rds rebooked etc etc. Not really an option, and given the small number of people affected...i say hard luck!

Considering how long it took them to put together the timetables; I'd be very surprised if they went and gave themselves more work to do. Not to mention the proportion of students abroad must be fairly small to begin with. A better solution would be supplemental examinations considering it won't affect their renting of the RDS etc.

Perhaps the SU should be petitioning for a postponement?

Forcing people to stay later for delayed exams would impact on more people than the small minority who are away right now.

    Not a chance.

Hold your horses, they've gotta hold a referendum on it first.
