donedeal has banned ads selling working dogs

SUCCESS: Donedeal drops ads for dogs used in blood sports
    19 March 2010
Irish classified ads website, Donedeal.ie, has responded positively to an Irish Council Against Blood Sports appeal in which we called for a rejection of ads for dogs used in hunting, baiting, digging-out and terrierwork. A big thumbs up to the Wexford-based company for updating its dog policy and beginning the process of permanently removing such ads.

When ICABS originally contacted DoneDeal about a number of dog adverts on their website, we were assured that "all of us at DoneDeal are big animal lovers" who didn't want their site to be used by those involved in cruelty.

As part of our appeal, we highlighted videos which explicitly show the cruelty involved in hunting and related activities such as the digging out of foxes and the use of terriers to trap animals underground and viciously attack them.

Donedeal's updated dog policy now includes the paragraph: "No Killing or Digging: We do not like the idea of dogs killing prey (e.g. foxes, badgers, deer, etc), as it can be a cruel experience for the prey, or the dog, or both. Therefore we do not accept ads that imply that the dog could/should be used for such activity. Also, we do not accept ads that mention or imply 'digging'." You can read the policy in full at http://help.donedeal.ie/info/dog-policy

"We're absolutely delighted with the stand DoneDeal has taken on this cruelty issue," responded ICABS spokesperson Aideen Yourell. "We will now be stepping up our campaign to try and get legislation introduced in Ireland to ban this barbarism."

What i got from it was dogs for 'killing' deer etc. Not tracking.
Thats what it said but to people ignorant of the sport that could mean any hunting dogs as it said "dogs for hunting'. Bit of a difference in a dog for pheasants and a dog that "kills" deer

Given that this is ICABS behind it, the word "working" is going to be enough. I'd suggest that the wording should be changed to "Would suit outdoorsy family with home in country" if you intend to sell working dogs on it. ;)

But it says in one part "hunting dogs". Which leaves it very open to any dogs.
But IMO a dog for tracking deer or flushing pheasants is a lot different that a dog used for bloodsports. Or is that under bloodsport catogory now??

ye boycott it would be the best option, if they go to ban all hunting dogs, what about horses used for fox hunting?

A minority like us boycotting them wouldnt bother them, they have pleased the majority already.

I look on donedeal on a regular basis, and some of the adds are beyond belief! Things like, lurcher will take fox and bigger game! or terrier will take fox and strippies! or good on fox and badger!
Are these people totally brainless! And then they wonder why the gardai are knocking on there door!
Think there was a similar ban on the buy and sell a while back involving the ICABS!
It seems from reading the examples in the artical, that even an add containing the word Hunting is banned!

Anyone feeling strongly enough to boycott the site should also write to DD explaining why. ICABS didn't get hunting dogs banned from there by boycotting the site, they wrote and wrote and complained and phoned and made a persistent nuisance of themselves until they got action.

There was a lurcher put up earlier on for sale. Cant remember everything the ad said but hunting dog was definitely in it.

I have often put ad's on Donedeal for hunting dogs. I am disgusted by this. I have emailed them expressing, how I feel about this. Since the greens got into goverment. it is unbelieveble how all these anti groups have really came to the fore.

Do we really want people in goverment that officially stand behind these groups. Do we live in a democracy or what. why are minority groups allowed to cause havoc like this.

I think we should bombard donedeal with complaints about this. It seems everybody is tarred with the puppy farming brush.

I thinks it's time we started our own website with forums and adverts page. how long is it going to be before they target websites like boards/adverts.ie.

I'm hunting/fishing/breeding working dogs for 20 years and never have i seen such carry on. next protest march organised by RISE. I will be there with a coach load of supportters and we should start doing what they do bring people from all over europe.

    Thank you for contacting us.
DoneDeal still accepts ads for hunting dogs. We merely remove those ads which make specific reference to the fact that the dog could be used for killing other animals as references to "digging" and other such terms was causing a lot of concern to users of our site.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
