Engine change advice

    Hey Guys,
My engine packed up on me recently and I'm looking to get it fixed/replaced.
I found another engine, exact same year/model etc... Does anyone know roughly how much it will be to take the engine out of both cars and have one fitted into the other? Are there any other requirements to take into consideration when changing over engines?
I'm in Waterford if anyone knows anybody or any garage that charges fair prices :P
    Thanks.

Depends on the car, but I'd say 500-600e is fair.

I had to get a new engine for a Fiat Punto 3 years ago, the cheapest I could get the labour was 600 and that was just fitting the bits I bought. Others quoted me stupid amounts

A Honda engine is as straight forward as they come. Would only take a day to do the swop, so 500-600euro is an expensive garage!!

Very true. I got a quote to have a 2003 Hyundai Coupé 1.6 engine swap for 896 including the engine, VAT, Labour etc. The replacement engine even had less than half the mileage on it than the one being taken out.

THATS STUPID ! 500-600 IS AN AVERAGE PRICE !!!!
SURE YOU COULD GET SOME POLISH GUY TO DO IT(NOTING AGAINST THEM) FOR 250 OR LESS BUT IS HE QUALIFIED?.TIMES ARE TOUGH MONEY WISE I UNDERSTAND BUT ID RATHER PAY THE BIT EXTRA AND HAVE THAT PEICE OF MIND

MY MATES BROTHER(A MECHANIC) QUOTED FOR A JOB (PARTS SUPLIED BY OWNER)

    VW CADDY (04)
    TIMING BELT
    FULL SERVICE
    DISCS ON FRONT
    PADS
AND SPOT LIGHTS ON A BULL BAR FITTED AND WIRED

I THINK MY MATES BRO QUOTED HIM 460......ISH WITCH I TAUGHT WAS REASONABLE

HE HAD THE BALLS TO TURN AROUND AND SAY 'AW THATS WAY TO DEAR A POLISH FELLA DOWN THE ROAD WILL DO IT FOR 130 QUID' LIKE THATS REDICULIS !

Volvic man please dont post with all caps.

I also dont see the point in your post?

There are loads of qualified indies out there of all nationalities and with the big R it is likely you can get a some good prices out there by pricing around

i said ill post in this treead rather than a new thread. No I was thinking of somewhere maybe down the line that I would like to change my 2ltr petrol engine in a 98 mazda626 to a diesel one. I know it will be a big thing but would i be looking at nearly 2-3k for it to be done including an engine??.

    That would make more sense.

Or even do a biofuel (E85) conversation which would be cheaper

I got quote off a fella to change a corolla engine and do the timming belt (all parts supplied by my self) for €550. I nearly dropped when he said it. I did it myself in a day and even changed the clutch and all it cost was €150 for an engine and a couple of hrs of my weekend. I had to swap around the injection system which turned out to be a simple job. My point is some fellas would try to ride ya if they think they could get away with it.
