Looking to buy a laptop in the next month with the following features:

    -Core i3 or i5 processor
    -4GB ram (3GB absolute minimum)
    -Windows 7
    -15.5in - 17in

Portability is not a big issue. It'll be used for internet, some big downloads, football manager, movies etc.

Is the price of i3/i5 laptops coming down?

Any recommendations would be great thanks :)

The laptop forum here is fairly poor by comparison to the rest of the site, which is surprising given how many geeky techie types frequent Boards.

This forum is a much better source for the type of info you're after...

    Hope this helps

hey man, a core i3 processor is more than enough for what you need. the core i5 boosts a better cache and faster loading times in football manager (not by much though, I reckon about 5-10% perhaps), but it's still lightning fast (the i3 that is)

the i5 boasts a turbo technology, that when the processing cores are pushed to the max, the CPU will overclock itself to run faster to meet your demands, that tends to be used only editing massive raw photo images, or playing a high demanding game.

for what you want to do, i recommend an i3 processor hands down though. The i3 itself has a large jump in performance over the older mobile Core 2 processors.

hope that helps. Also, if you're looking at playing HD Movies on your laptop, I recommend a laptop with at LEAST an Intel 4500M or higher. Any Nvidia or ATI graphics card that comes with the Core iX laptops are more than enough for HD movies and gaming also.

Thanks a million mate thats a great help ! Didn't realise the i5 was so powerful!

So in your opinion, where would be the best place to buy an i3 laptop? and roughly what price would I be looking at?
