were mk1 polos sold in Ireland in the '70s/'80s?

I got thinking about this last week. I've seen plenty of Irish mk1 VW Derbys from the '70s and early '80s but the only (two) mk1 Polos I've seen here have been UK imports. I broke one of them, the other was in Cork last year, being broken.

Were mk1 Polos actually sold in Ireland in the '70s-early '80s? If so, where are they now? I know we had plenty of mk1 Golfs, did VW put a push on the bigger model over the little one?

Indeed they were, though i havent seen one for years and years. They were marketed in some other contries as the Audi 50 i think too. Sure the Derby is practically extinct too.

There are two derbys in Cork city, both very good condition, both original irish regd, one is a pale blue and the other is a brown.....:D And yes, there were a few VW polos mark 1 sold here. The polo mk 2 arrived around 1982 but only stayed availalbe for a year or so before it reappeared here in 1987.The Audi 50 wasnt sold here, it was only available in Europe.
