Can anyone recommend a good vaccum cleaner that will pick up dog hair. I would prefer the cylinder type rather than the upright ones. I am thinking of getting a Miele but would love some advice.

I have the Miele dog & cat, it's excellent, had it for about three years and it's still as good as new!

I also have the Miele cat and dog for about 9 years and it really is the best appliance in the house. You get what you pay for. Recomend

Always wanted a dyson, but after abit of research I am getting bad reviews of the dyson and fantastic reviews of the miele.

So I think it has to be miele cat and dog model. Will head out to make my big purchase at the weekend - unless anyone advises me against it !!

Will keep you all posted and thanks for your advice.

I'd definitely go for a Miele over Dyson.

That said, I use a trusty Henry :) though not sure it'd be as good for animal hair as one with dedicated pethair head.
