to manufacture a sat/dtt hd pvr box for ireland?

i realise we are only a small market, but if would it be possible/cost effective to supply a box which could receive freesat and irish channels. and pause rewind, and series link. and a pvr.

is this not what most irish people would like? a once off payment for a box, attach it to your dtt aerial and sat dish?

    an irish humax foxsat?

I have actually being thinking of doing this myself as a side project (although it might take me years with work commitments etc), although I was just thinking of 3 tuners, to cover all. The hardware would be the biggest concern as a visit to China would be required. The actual OS would be relativily simple and building LFS would be the best way to go. The downside, I think, is that there would be little or no profit in it unless you could sell it overseas too, maybe as an Enigma2 based system to take on the DMs

There are a number of boxes already on the market capable of this e.g. MVision HD300 Combo DTT / Satellite Receiver.

HTPC with a DVB-T MPEG-4 tuner and a DVB-S2 tuner will do the trick.

No subs to Sky necessary, and you can record, multiroom, stream all the free TV you want without paying extra subs for the privilege.
