Well who do YOU think should be the new Irish boxing HIGH PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR and do you think that the Irish Sports Council are right to have taken the stance that they seemingly have according to Vincent Hogan's article in the Independent?

I'd have thought that Bill Walsh should have had that post long before now as successor to Gary Keegan. How will this 'dispute' if ongoing affect the chances of Irish success in 2012 London Games?

It should be Walsh, no question. If the irish sports council wants to improve the sporting infrastructure then objecting to the failure to appoint walsh in this case is correct. The best people for the job should get the job. Losing gary keegan was a blow, to lose walsh as well would just undo all the good work the high performance centre has achieved over the years.

i find it rather odd that billy walsh is not the natural choice, he has been in the system since the start and should be given a chance to see if he can continue what has been a sucess.

Also worth having a read of today's articles in Sunday Independent by Alan Ruddock and John O'Brien , on the subject. Here is what Ruddock says:-

For those of you who read the Indo, there is also a pretty strongly worded piece by John O'Brien in today's issue on Page 18 though seemingly not yet on the "online version". The headline " Tensions Rise to surface over Walsh snub" speaks for itself ; the article quotes a 'source close to the unit' suggesting that both Billy Walsh and Jim Moore may be on the verge of quitting and concludes:"There is a serious risk of losing them" "If we lose guys of this calibre,Irish Amateur boxing is in serious trouble".

Not exactly the best time for such a controversy to arise with the 2012 Games looming... Let's hope that common sense prevails.... and that this issue will not further damage the relationship between the Irish Sports Council and the IABA...

Should be an interesting IABA Board meeting tonight... will Dominic O'Rourke be confirmed as High Performance Director? What will be the reaction,if any, to the Irish Sports Council's refusal to guarantee the salaries of the CEO and HPD?

This article by Vincent Hogan quite rightly raises concerns for the future, especially with the 2012 Olympic Games looming.
