    Hi all,
My mother really needs a new laptop/computer. She likes the idea of an apple. However, she has always used Windows and would like to continue with windows. I think one of her motives is apples resistance to viruses. I think she also likes the look of the white laptops!
Basically i know there is alot of debate about why you should bother getting an apple if you are going to run windows, but i guess its your choice at the end of the day. I am sorry to ask a question which I could ask at a computer store, but I really cannot make it to one anytime soon, so your help is greatly appreciated.
    1. What I am trying to find out is has anyone on here done it?
    2. Is it difficult/expensive?
    3. HOW do you do it? Is it simply a case of tellin apple you want a windows operating system when you order it??
    4. What would be the most cost effective way of doing it?

I am really interested to find out.
    Many thanks to all

I am a huge mac fan but its a waste of time paying premium prices for a mac just to run windows. There is plenty of good looking windows laptops out there.

There's a guide here if you really want to, but like ant043 said it's ridiculous paying mac prices to run windows on.

Thats just wrong, serious waste of money if You're not using OSX, which is really what You're paying for. You'd get a similar laptop with the same components running Windows for half the price, heck, just get 2

only if you use osx, if you use windows on it its just as prone to viruses as any pc

Ah so its the apple operating system which reduces your risk of viruses than the actual laptop itself?

Yes. If you change to windows you negate any of the benefits of using an "apple". You can get some very nice, and white, laptops for less than an equivalent MAC, that will more than suit your mother's needs.

Has she ever used a Mac? Tell her to go to a store and try one. Most switchers have no trouble forgetting about Windows.

She hasnt actually, so that is definitely the next step. Ill be able to pass on this information. So she will have to choose either apple and learn how to use their operating system or continue with windows, and get a decent anti virus on there.
Thanks for all your help guys. Ill prob be back with more questions!
I appreciate your time very much

Some good deals on the refurb store at the moment, she could pick up a mac book pro for 889, she'll have no bother getting used to a mac, go for a pro it does feel a lot better to use than a white one(mac book)
