Dont know if this thread is even suited to this forum but here it is anyways :

    Hello,

I have a 2002 VW Golf. 1.6 Petrol, manual gearbox
It has a Gemini car alarm system
There is something weird and really annoying happening with the alarm, it just keeps going off randomly. I can be sitting in my house with no one around and then all of a sudden the car alarm goes off without anybody or anything touching it, this morning , it has come to a head, I was in bed and it went off about 5 times in a row - its seriously doing my head in at this stage.

I think it may stem from this issue with the central locking. ; When I press the remote central locking button on the key fob to open the doors, the car **normally** should make 3 audible beeps to indicate that doors have opened.

However, lately, when I press this button to remotely open the doors with the key fob, the car *sometimes* is making 5/6 audible beeps ( and not 3 as normal )

So as said, sometimes it makes the normal 3 beeps, other times, it will make 5 / 6 beeps.

I also notice that sometimes when I open the doors as above and get in the car that there is a light flashing sometimes inside the car. This light is located on the very front of the right dashboard up against window, I think its supposed to symoblise the alram being on - but I dont think this should be flashing when ive actually opened the doors and sitting inside the car

Im not too au fait with the working of a car alarm, but Im presuming that the central locking and the car alram are linked and intertwined

Sorry for the long post and rant but anyone got any ideas on how to solve this annoying problem ?

The problem being the alarm that keeps going off and the car not emiting the correct amount of beeps when opening the doors

I would say your door pins are not working properly therefore your alarm cannot tell if your door is opened or closed so the led continues to flash.

My fathers old Rover had a similar issue to this, alarm going off at 3am etc for no reason. I took each of the door pins off and cleaned them with wd40 and everything was fine after that.

Do your wipers work okay??? (serious question)

I had a similar fault on a Skoda Fabia... turned out to be the bonnet catch sensor for the alarm... which caused false alarms.. doors to unlock and intermitent wipers to disable.

i can pretty much guarantee i know the cause ;)

remove the panel from the inside off ur bootlid and check the hose feeding the rear washer jet 99% guarantee it has came off or broken leaking water down into the boot lock which is shorting out the alarm happened mine drove me mad for a few weeks until i found the answer and when i checked on line it appears to be a regular occurence ! it will necessitate a replacement lock i picked one up from local scrappy

go and try it and let me know how it goes !

    hello

thanks for all the quick replies. That thing with the door pins sounds like a bit too much work : )

Now that you say it. I have noticed in the last while that when I try to activate the rear wipers water i.e. to spray water onto the back window, that sometimes the water does not come out ( and there is water in the water tank ) BUt maybe this has nothing to do with the problem
Ill have a look at rear window so but im not very confident around making repairs to my car.

ill try and give it a go anyways

Any trouble pm me and il give you my number and talk you thru it , as far as I can remember it's the stiff pipe leading to the jet and on mine I just got a rubber pipe to join the 2 parts and then replaced the lock

Hello focus owner, so I tried the thing with the boot lid before I read your reply back

Found it very hard to take teh boot lid thing off, was well wedged, ended up gettin a bit of it off but the rest of it wud not come so I left, now when I pushed it back, something has come loose on it and there is something rattling, thats why I hate doing DIY on cars cause I normally f*!k it up.

so at the end of it all, I can not see if any piepes are leaking etc.

Thing is , I would have no bother payi a lad to do this, who knows what he is doing, but its very hard to find a lad that would do work on a car when it invloves wiring, electrics, alarms etc. ive asked around and no one knows of anyone that would do this kind of work

where are u based ? Ur kinda stuck in limbo without knowing but anyhow to try my theory get some paper towel and sit it over the lock and close the boot down without lockin then go turn on rear wash jet hold it on for a few seconds enough to make a puddle in the bootlid if uv a problem then go to boot see is it leakin water if it is its ur lock on the boot

Thanks for all the helpful replies here

I tried a couple of the DIY things but made a ba**s of it ( boot lid not fitting in correctly now ) so I dont want to do it the DIY route

I ended up bringing it the other day to the alarm manafacturer and they done something with the ultra sonic sensor and charged me 125 euro to do so, they said this may or may not resolve the problem, but alas the problem is still there and the bloody alarm is still going off

Ive asked a few lads I know is there anyone that could resolve this for me and they all shake their heads saying that you wont get anyone to look at a problem like I have i.e. trying to find someone to have to go to the hassle of tracing wires, taking boot lids off, checking for loose connections etc.

Im just wondering, is there anyone on here that knows a garage, auto electrical mechanic, handy man that could sort this kind of a problem out for me ?

Im already 125 euro down and problem not fixed

To be honest, I dont really care about having an alram, all I want to do is to be able to use a remote control to open/close the doors

But I think in order to have central locking that you also need to have an alarm fitted as they are intertwined ? is that true ?

    if not true

now much would it be to remove old alarm system and just install a system that will allow me to remotely open / close doors ?

Anyway if ur still in bother il have a look at it for ya and it wont cost u anything

so thanks to great help from focus owner, I think I have found the problem

I took the boot lid off and checked teh rear washer and the hose had come out, therefore when I activated the rear washer, all teh water was not goign on teh windscreen but avtually just leaking down in to the lock, so therefore the lock is not working properly and has become shorted which is causing the alarm to go off

Also, on the drivers door, there is an issue too, when I open it, the open door sysmbol does not come on on the dashboard nor does the interior lights come on, these come on when I open all other doors. Another thing is when I leave the car without turning off the car lights, its supposed to tell me via a beep that teh lights are still on, but it does nto, so something gone there too

Anyone know of anyone in the Dublin area who could source the locks for the drivers door and boot and replace them and fix this issue ??

the boot lock replacement is a doddle u just need some spline torx bits to open it i think and its a matter of unplugging it and reconnecting the new one and tightening the bolts

the door lock would be a little more difficult any garage can sort it for u easy u could even get the locks on ebay i suppose ?

    front lock

    Thanks yet again focus owner
To be honest , I dont even know what spline torx bits are !

BUt I may have a go at the boot lock myself anyways

Just wondering, would a garage frown upon the idea of a customer bringing in a lock and saying " here you are now fit that "

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭focusowner

No unless its a main dealer ! Regular garage would be sound about it
