Ok so I am marooned in London for the weekend without my running gear and due to do a 16m LSR!

Anybody got any good tips on a place to pick up a 'cheap' pair of Kayano 15's (need a new pair anyway!), shorts, t -shirt etc

Oh yeah i'll be lost without me watch - any ideas for an inexpensive sports watch (not forking out for a garmin for the sake of one w/end!)

    Thanks

ps. Obviously if anybody has any travel tips I'd be glad to hear them to!!

As for travel tips...I was looking at back-up plan for getting to London next weekend for the marathon (just in case this situation drags on longer), and the sail-rail option with Stena Line is only €40 each way to/from London/Dublin. Not sure what availability is like this weekend though.

As for running gear - plenty of specialist shops around London. Don't know of any particularly cheap ones though.

I've always found Decathlon great for bargain running stuff, not sure if they will have Kayano's but worth a look and they will have everything else you want nice and cheap

    here is their address

    Canada Water Retail Park
    Surrey Quays Road
    SE16 2XU London
    Phone: 020 7394 2000

dunno if that's any use to you, depends where in London you are really. Jubilee line (underground) will get you to Canada Water and you can't miss it from there :D

Specialist shops tend to be pretty expensive compared to the likes of wiggle, Tesco often do sports gear though, maybe try a primark or bhs.

Peckham selfishly I'm a little disappointed the london marathon isn't this weekend so that i could have watched it!

Travel wise - not looking good so i'm off to buy some running gear! found this shop http://www.sweatshop.co.uk which appears close to me in fulham.

16 miles along the Thames should be a nice change in any case!

I'd throw the forty notes at it now just incase. No flights happening before Monday anyway, although they have only closed the airspace until 1am tomorrow at the moment before they move it again, but the likes of Ryanair and BA have said they are not doing anything 'till Monday regardless. Last time that volcanoe went off it carried on for a couple of years and if it just keeps going until the middle of next week this time before stopping that will be enough to ruin any flight plans for getting to London.

Even if the flights start as normal on Monday (which I think is highly unlikely), it could take days to sort out the backlog. I can't see any flights before next weekend unless the weather changes soon - this shows where the ash is at the minute, and it's not going anywhere fast:

On the BBC News24 their guy in Manchester airport was saying that "industry sources" had told him that nothing would be happening before Wednesday. There was another guy on then, but I cannot remember where he was from, but was talking about at least 10 days before things would get back to normal.

treated myself to the new Kayano 16's in the end - bit of a jump of faith as i hadn't read any reviews on them etc

did 8 miles in them last night and very happy so far!

Got them for 80 stg which seems like decent price to me...

looks like i am stuck here for the next week so at least I can keep on schedule with the training
