splitting satellite signal

Okay please bear with me as I explain my question.

I have 2 no. sky+ boxes with 2 cables coming into each. I want HD but don't want to pay a hd sub and am considering getting a freesat HD box to use in conjunction with one of the sky+ boxes.

So at one of the boxes I wish to use a freesat hd box as well. 2 cables 2 boxes.

    Options
A 1 cable per box which would mean no double recording on sky+ and no watching one channel and recording another. Is that right?

B Split one of the cables coming into the sky+ box with some kind of y splitter so I end up with one cable going into freesat box and 2 into the sky+ box (one of which is split)
    .
On the split cable, if I am watching on the freesat box will the other split of the cable be dead for the sky+box. Or what will happen?

Is B possible at all? If so what are the consequences?

Is there better way to do what I want to do?

    Thanks

    Paul

What you need is an Octo lnb and run to seperate cables to feed your humax freesat hd box.

'Y' Splitting could damage your equipment....not advisable at all. the Octo suggestion is the best solution

I was thinking of doing the same.

Could you explain how this damages the equipment?
    Thanks

You can go for the Y spliiter option but you will need to use a swithed Y splitter(http://www.revealcable.co.uk/acatalog/info_AA4144.html) because the LNB is powered from the sky box. So if you hook up the freesat box and sky box using a normal Y splitter both boxes will be providing power to the LNB and therfore this could damage your equipment.

not only would both boxes be supplying power , but at Different Voltages as the H and V bands are powered at different voltages.

are you sure that this device will work with a satellite signal as it looks as if it is designed for a terrestial signal?

I can't see why it would work, it's only switching signals from one cable to another. Althought I could be wrong as I am no expert.

True Tony so he would be better getting a stacker destacker if he is going to have the sky plus box and the HD receiver together.
