    Hey people

We are having a big family weekend away in Knightsbrook next Friday and 20 of us are playing the golf ( big family ) think 40 odd of us going.

Just wondering has anyone got any opinions on the course ? what its condition is like? any shot savers etc ?

Thanks in advance, just playing for a bit of fun but would like to get feedback on it all the same.

    Condition = Perfect.

Played twice in the past 3 weeks from the whites. All holes are long (especially the par 4's). You will be hitting a lot of fairway woods and long iron approaches.

Scorecard is very poor as it does show not a map of the course so you'll be scratching your head a couple of times wondering what pin am I playing (you'll know what I mean when you stand on the first tee). It plays straight forward and to the left.

Friend of mine got a buggy on the back 9 and it's layed out with GPS mapping. So if someone you are playing with uses a buggy, tag along.

The closing 18th (par 3) is a nice hole. You'll be aware that you need an extra club when you step on the teebox.

Each of the 18 holes are highly enjoyable and it's hard to single out just one. It's a great challenge.

You will walk off the 18th with a big smile on your face - beautiful course.

    Enjoy.

When I played the course it was in great nick. Yes its long but very scoreable if your hitting it well.

I enjoyed it and will play again this year. The greens could be the best I've played on in a long.. long time, well worth a trip down just to play on them.

Good for you buachaill hope you enjoy it.
In good nick. The greens were sanded a couple of weeks ago but should be fine for you next Friday.

As above - it's got some long par 4s off the whites with some well positioned bunkers at the greens.

Best bit of advice I can give you (especially if you're still in the hunt coming towards the end) - is for the 15th (my favourite hole).

Its a lovely par 4 with water in 2 places.
If you're driving well - aim for the very left of the fairway. Basically you want to put your ball over the first tree to the left of the fairway. This will leave you with a much nicer approach to the green than if you land in the middle / right of the fairway.

After that you have 3 nice scoreable holes to finish (par 3, 5, 3)

    Good luck!

    Played Knightsbrook on Saturday.

I don't like giving out about courses, but I really didn't think it was in great knick. I thought the greens were horribly slow, and really bumpy. Lots of bare areas around the greens that have been worn away by trolleys, making it difficult to chip.

I know it's a relativly new course, and it probably just need s a few years to mature. There are some lovely holes alright, the last is a good finish, lipped out for birdie which would have been nice.

It was also horrifically slow, took us over 5 hours to play. A ranger of some description was badly needed to keep things moving. At least it was a cracking day, so was nice to be out in the sun!

The greens were hollow thined about two weeks ago now. They are getting back to shape now - I played yesterday and the ball was running nicely. They should be pretty much perfect for your game on Friday.

As for the 15th, taking the ball over those trees on the left is quite a tough shot - its probably a 220 yard carry- but like me you'll probably take out your two iron and lay up in front of the water:D

    as for tips-
you can take it over the bunker on one, and even left of that bunker, but keep it on the fairway, on two, go right with drive and you've no shot, on three make sure you dont go over the green, theres a run off to a drain, on four, do not go long over the green, impossible up and down, six is definitely reachable in two, a long drive right over the left hand bunker will set you up nicely, you can go left of it, but you'd need to be very long. on eight aim for the 150 marker to the left of the tree, the further right you go the longer it is. on 10 make aim about 20 yards right of the bunker, wide fairway - cant see landing zone. 12's a monster into the wind - 13 is reachable, the line is right over the right hand bunker, go right of it and theres a lake though. 14, take it just right of the bunker (or over it, if you have serious length) - 17 is really a 3 shotter....18 dont go for pin if its tucked behind bunker cos if you go right, its a very tricky up and down.....

    good luck

Lol, I inadvertantly cleared them! Didn't know what line to hit it on that hole, so was aiming a good bit right of them. Pulled the crap out of it but ended up on the fairway with about a 7 iron in. A risky shot to try and hit it over them, would try and hit it right again if I was playing it!

Today I booked in a fourball for Knightsbrook on a Saturday in June for €35 per man. Given the growth these days it should be in good shape by then.

Sounds like good value for Course #52 in Ireland's Top 100. Looking forward to it.

Played on Saturday - glorious day, top course - fair, nice length, some tricky holes.

Greens were very true, albeit a tiny bit slow.

The guy only charged us €25 per man for some reason also - eyes nearly popped out of my head. Fantastic value and only about 30-40 mins from Dublin.

My advice - get down there some time soon.

great course, don't loke the par 3 finish(should always be par 5) make sure you hit the ball nice and high into the greens if you want to be putting, ps all markers are too the middle (not to the front as at most courses)

    interesting opinion. any reason why?

I actually thought that this par 3 was a killer finishing hole. Very deceptive in length, no margin for error on the left hand side at all. A real card wrecker if you're not very careful - like any good 18th should be.

In our 4-ball the match all came down to the 18th and this made for some very nervous drives. Not a huge fan of par 3s to finish in general but this one is good and not for the faint hearted if you're trying to hold a score together.

IMO Wide open featureless golf course good greens, but you can hit it anywhere and bar you put it in the drop of water they have or hit it out of bounds you cannot lose a ball more of a long slog 18 probably best hole on it as a par 3

    Nice nice course, long tho.

Driving very well on this day and still hitting 5-7 irons on most par fours.

Par 5's not too long Par 3's are very nice all over water I think???

Found the greens excellent condition, hot day and cut low so were really fast.

Great finishing hole, Fairly flat so wont be to tired at the end. Very young course so trees not mature enough to cause any major problems so it's seldome your in trouble apart from water and bunkers.

Very enjoyable track, well done Chisty (Christy O Connor designed it!!)
