ok, I’m looking for a bit of advice. For a long time i have wanted to do an half and eventually a full ironman and because I’m not getting any younger....the sooner the better. Anyway, because of the recession I now live in Australia. I’m near the beach, there is a 50m pool a walk away and I have a good job so can afford race entry, flights, bike etc.

So here is the problem: I work on site on a mine....in the bush. it’s a two hour flight from Perth. I do 2 weeks on site and one week completely off in Perth. On site there is a gym and a pool. In Perth there is everything I could need.

So the question is this: Do you lot think it is possible to train for a HIM by doing one intense LSD and multi discipline heavy week and then two weeks of cross training and maintenance/cross training?
When training for marathons before i have generally overtrained and haven’t suffered because of it. I’m going to test it to an extent on this break and see how I feel and what I’m capable of.

From what I saw when I visited that part of the world if you're working in the mines two hours from perth you're more than likely getting a fairly good work out during your working day. IMHO if you can already swim and manage regular sessions in your local 50m pool and a couple of runs - based on the fact that you've a few marathons under your belt by the sounds of it - you'll definitely get through a HIM. It all depends really on what your objectives are: to finish or to achieve a particular time you have in your own head.

Hell of a part of the world you're in. Personally, I loved the isolation up along the coast north of Perth and I was only there for a month.
