Freesat Channels

I've just bought a Grundig Freesat reciever and I'm having a few problems with it. I'm basically just upgrading from the Lidl system that I've had for years and is still working. So I swapped out the receivers and did a scan on the Grundig using a Northern Ireland post code (also tried a London one) but I appear to be getting only some of the channels, they all appear in the EPG but I cant view them when selected. The BBC's work fine and others too, but the likes of Channel 4, Film 4, E4 and ITV's aren't. They all worked fine on the other receiver and the dish hasn't been touched so it must be a problem with the Grundig. Can anyone help?

It could be your dish or cable that is the culprit. If you are only getting some channels on the new box, it may have a weaker tuner then your lidl one.

I would suggest you try your new box in a friends house and see the channels work there first to confirm or rule out the box.

Thanks for your reply, just wondering though how it could be the dish or the cable that's at fault since I haven't touched them and the Lidl box works fine when connected?

The Lidl box picks up all the ASTRA signals and thus channels, unlike the Gundig unit which has to be pointed directly at 28.2 Degrees East (Astra 2D satellite). I'd say your satellite is just slightly off.
Is the satellite that you are using one that you put up yourself along with the Lidl reciever?

Yes the dish is the one that I got with the Lidl reciever, I get a signal strength of 77% when both boxes are connected. It says on the Grundig receiver once the signal is over 50% it should be ok, but I might try aligning the dish again although I'm sure its at 28.2 East. Thanks for your reply

EDIT: I have aligned the dish again, used the Lidl box (set to 28.2) and got a signal strength of 80%, swapped in the new Grundig box, signal strength 80% also. Same problem though, some of the channels not coming in, specifically the Channel 4 family (E4, Film & More 4). Just in regards to comment above that it has to be pointed directly at 28.2 on the Grundig, well surely then it wouldn't show any signal if it wasn't pointed at it, but it shows 80% signal quality?

Even if you are getting 80% signal you still cant receive low band horizontal frequencies. There is 4 signals receivable Vertical high, vertical low, horizontal high and horizontal low you could bring the grundig box to a friends or family house connect to their dish and see can you get those channels you mentioned if you can't then the grundig has a tuner fault. I would also consider changing your Lidl dish to a more stronger dish.

So do you think I need to re-align my dish again? I would have assumed that with signal strength at 88% and signal quality at 80% I would be able to receive all available channels? Its just the channel 4 family that isn't working now on the Grundig, but they work perfect with the Silvercrest receiver connected  And the epg works perfect on the Grundig, on all of the channels, even on Channel 4, E4 etc. that aren't showing a picture

Firstly you should connect your grundig to some one elses dish just to make sure it's not a fault with the box.

I have a similar issue with some of the CBS channels (not Drama), Euronews and one or two others. I got a cheapo B&Q system and could see these channels with the Ross satellite receiver. Then I got a Humax recorder and a signal amplifier. While the signal strengths are now higher on the BBC's and others, I get absolutely no signal on these channels. Is this transponder very sensitive to where the dish is pointed, or is there some other explanation.

I had an odd problem - a bit similar. My Bush Freesat box used to sometimes drop Tiny Pop (ch 605) - it was the only box in the house affected and seemed to affect a few other channels close on the EPG. I even went as far as swapping to my spare box since I suspected the receiver. Turned out to be the cable connections between wall socket & box. The connection was slightly defective but good enough for it to work fine most of the time... All my boxes report 90-100% strength quality on the diagnostics.

It's def worth testing the box on a different dish/feed.
