sram red help

Hi - I’m looking to source an internal part from a SRAM Red Double Tap shifter left side (Front Derailleur) 2009.

In the first picture you can see the part removed, it’s an alloy part which sheared/snapped on me. The second picture is of the part itself removed from the unit.

I rang one bike shop and they’ve told me only SRAM will replace it under warranty - which is crazy. I dont have warranty on it, but would be willing to buy the part from anywhere that can get it....just wondering is there any shops you know off that may stock the sram red parts that I could try?

    pics attached

    Thanks for the help!

Been on to Sram - but they will only deal with warranty holders and there service HQ in the Netherlands don't deal with consumers directly so if anyone has any ideas?

Attached better photos of the part that is broken.

I've had problems getting small SRAM parts, in my case a crinkle washer for a press-fit BB.

In the end I just called the shop who sold me the orginal part and they sent me one out for nothing.

Where did you get the bike/groupset from?

Please post if you get a resolution, as I'd like to know. :)

Standard SRAM warranty is two years, you should be able to get it fixed under warranty, no?

the problem is the bike was purchased in the US, and I dont think the warranty is transferable but I am looking into it....it is well under 2 years old. Problem is SRAM just say to go to the bike shop you purchased it from and they will deal with the warranty but obviously that isnt going to work in this case.

Can you not get in touch with the bike shop in the states and let them know the story. I know the sheer logistics means you would be without a lever for a good while.

I'd say to SRAM that you bought it in the US but are no longer there and see what they say. You may be able to get it fixed through a local dealer.

    Warranty:
Claims under this warranty must be made through the retailer where the bicycle or the SRAM
component was purchased. Original proof of purchase is required.

Surely you are on good terms with an LBS that can run this claim for you? Where do you usually buy parts in Ireland? The shop you rang don't sound like they will be too helpful, unfortunately.

I completely understand SRAM or any other manufacturer for that matter wanting to only talk to distributors or shops. 'Course that's no help to you at this point.

If you have no joy with an LBS, definitely call the retailer in the US. One thing I have found about US bike retailers vs Irish ones is that on average they understand customer service a bit better.

The Sram distributors for Ireland/UK are Fisher Outdoor Leisure.

    www.fisheroutdoor.co.uk

Contact them, they will advise regarding a local bike shop to handle the claim through.

It should make no difference where you bought it, as long as you have proof of purchase.

thanks for that - will try the distributor and see if they can help. I think the problem is going to be this was an ebay purchase....so no proof of purchase receipt unless I can get it from the original seller.

Anyway, thanks for the help. Perhaps the distributor can help source the spare part needed, dont mind paying for it if they can get it to me.

It seems the internal shifter mechanism is pre asembled and the individual part you are looking for is not available separately.
You could price the assembly versus the complete unit as you already have the levers/hood and clamp, and see if it is worthwhile.
Although I would be tempted to go for a quick fix and stick a cheap secondhand 9 or 10 speed replacement on there.

i would agree with victorcarrera that it is the part pointed at with a 4, but from the pictures you've shown it looks like it is a pretty integral part of the shifter. can you see how it broke off from the inside, ie did it break off a larger piece?
